The current Apple Watch is almost two years old, even though it’s only been on sale for just over a year and a half. If you buy the Apple Watch that is in stores you will get access to WatchOS 3.0 that brings many upgraded features and better performance, but there is only so much that software can do.

It’s certainly possible to wait and wait and wait for the next big thing, so at some point you need to just buy the current model. At this stage, with an announcement likely coming in less than 30 days and a release within the next two months there are more reasons than ever to wait.

Here is a walkthrough of the reasons to wait for the Apple Watch 2 release date and the reasons not to.

Wait for GPS in the Apple Watch 2

When you go for a run with the Apple Watch or even need to get directions on your Apple Watch, you need to carry your iPhone with you to know where you are.

The Apple Watch doesn't have GPS, so the iPhone shares it's location to the Apple Watch to track where you are.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kou, Apple plans to include GPS in the Apple Watch 2. This means that if you go for a run or a bike ride the watch can track your route.

It is possible that this will allow you to start directions on your Apple Watch while connected to your phone or WiFi and then go somewhere without your iPhone, although that seems like an odd decision outside of a workout.

If fitness tracking, especially GPS and route tracking is important you should wait.
