AT&T Rumored to Launch Windows Phone 8 Nokia Prodigy, Nokia AC/DC Phones Soon

After having announced the Nokia Lumia 900 with 4G LTE support in the U.S. just at the beginning g of this year at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, AT&T is ready to further expand its Windows Phone lineup with Nokia and Microsoft. It is rumored that the U.S. wireless carrier, which has been a strong Windows Phone carrier in the past, will expand its portfolio to include two new, unannounced Windows Phone handsets made by Nokia. The handsets have the code names of Nokia Prodigy and Nokia AC/DC right now.

These handsets will most likely be released and announced with Windows Phone 8, which itself has a codename of Apollo. Right now, there aren’t any details about these handsets other than the code names and the Windows Phone 8 platform that is rumored to be powering them.

With Windows Phone 8, Microsoft has been speculated to build in support for dual-core processors. Current Windows Phone devices are capped at single-core processors. Though single-core processors work fine on Windows Phone, those who compare devices based on hardware specs may feel that Microsoft’s devices are under-powered when compared to dual-core and quad-core Android handsets.

In the past, Nokia had promised that features from its Symbian phones may be making their way to Windows Phone in the future. These features include NFC support and strong camera performance like that on the PureView. Perhaps with increased processing power and more work done for Windows Phone 8, we’ll begin to see Nokia take its camera phone leadership to Microsoft’s platform with either the Prodigy or AC/DC.

Rival HTC is also prepping some Apollo handsets as well.
