Treyarch is finally adding Black Ops 3 clans to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 after months of play and two DLC releases, but they are now called Black Ops 3 Groups and they aren’t just for hardcore players.
The Black Ops 3 Group feature is now live, with a new Black Ops 3 hotfix on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Treyarch kicks this off with a special May Black Ops 3 Double XP event that is live now if you play in a party of two or more players.
The new Black Ops 3 groups feature included options to migrate from Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare clans to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 groups, but that is now closed.
Here’s a look at what you need to know about Black Ops 3 groups and why they are different than Black Ops 3 clans — but can still function as a clan if you want to use it as that.
What are Black Ops 3 Groups?
Black Ops 3 Groups are whatever you want them to be. You an think of these as Black Ops 3 Clans, but if you aren’t into clans it is also a great way to start a community inside of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
Treyarch describes this as, “an open-ended feature that puts control in the hands of players. It’s up to players to create or join Groups that make sense for them.” They suggest using it for;
In short you can use these to make a group of anyone that you want to be connected with. That can include your Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare clan or your best friends.
When Does the Black Ops 3 Groups Beta Start?
The Black Ops 3 Group beta started on May 10th, and if you wanted to convert your Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare clan to a Black Ops 3 group you needed to do that before May 9th.
On May 10th the beta will start and you will not be able to convert any more. There does not appear to be any need to sign up for the beta if you are not converting a clan.
How will Black Ops 3 Groups Work?
There are five major things that you can do with Black Ops 3 groups. Here’s a fast look at how these will work.
- Quick Join – See who is online and jump into the party immediately.
- Overview – See the group activity and read a featured group message.
- Roster – This is basically a friends list for the group members. You don’t need to be friends on the console, but you can see a combat record and showcase.
- Leaderboard – See a Group leaderboard that includes custom parameters.
- Showcase – You can quickly see the best content that your group members share.
There is also an admin tab that will allow the group owner to manage the group so that the creator can manage privacy and other important features.
How to Fix Black Ops 3 Groups Problems
If you have trouble using or finding Black Ops 3 groups you may need to adjust your settings on the Xbox One or settings on other consoles.
You may also need to adjust in game User Generated Content settings as well. In short, make sure your console settings are open to social connections.
Black Ops 3 Groups to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare?
It’s not clear if you will be able to bring your Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Groups to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare later this year.
This is all inside the Call of Duty platform, so it is possible, but there is also a chance that we will need to wait months again for the option to bring your groups to the next game.
