New devices running BlackBerry 10 could launch on Canadian carriers on February 5 according to a report from CrackBerry.
According to the rumor, both Telus and Bell will start selling the BlackBerry Z10 on February 5, just six days after RIM unveils the phone in a New York City event. The phone will come to both carriers in black and white according to the rumor. So far the black version of the phone has shown up more in leaks, with very few leaks of the white version.
There’s no mention of Rogers, the other big carrier in Canada, but the company does have a history of support BlackBerry devices. It seems likely that Rogers would carry the BlackBerry Z10 shortly after launch, even if it’s not on February 5 like the other major Canadian carriers.
Six days from launch to release isn’t a very long time, but RIM has continually pushed back the release of BlackBerry 10. It could be that carriers have already performed their testing of the BlackBerry Z10, which would mean they can sell it as soon RIM allows. Most phone announcements come weeks before release, with a few rare exceptions. BlackBerry 10 could be one of those exceptions.
There’s no word on when the BlackBerry Z10 will reach U.S. carriers. All four major carriers expressed interest in selling BlackBerry 10 devices, but there’s no rumors of when they will sell them. Presumably RIM will announce dates for its carrier partners at the January 30 launch event.
If RIM doesn’t announce any dates at the event, U.S. carriers will likely wait to announce when they will carry the phones.
The touchscreen BlackBerry Z10 is the first BlackBerry 10 phone RIM will announce. The company will announce other phones with the new OS later this year, however. The company also has the BlackBerry X10, with a square touchscreen and physical keyboard in the works.
