BlackBerry, the company formerly known as RIM, was initially coy about the release date of the BlackBerry Q10, its brand-new BlackBerry 10 smartphone with QWERTY keyboard. Now, BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins has dropped some potential news, which if true, could mean that the BlackBerry Q10 release date won’t arrive in the U.S. until May or June.
At the end of January, BlackBerry announced its first BlackBerry 10 device with a physical keyboard and touchscreen display. That device is called the BlackBerry Q10 and it will be coming to AT&T, Sprint and Verizon at some point in 2013. The carriers have remained mum on specific release dates for the BlackBerry Q10 but it appears that BlackBerry’s CEO has hinted at what could happen.
In comments made to the Associated Press, CEO Thorsten Heins claimed that the BlackBerry Q10 might not be released for eight to ten weeks after carriers release the other BlackBerry 10 device the company announced, the BlackBerry Z10.
American carriers are expected to release the BlackBerry Z10 during the month of March which means that RIM’s first BlackBerry 10 smartphone with a physical keyboard may not arrive until May or June, after the rumored launches of the HTC M7 and Samsung Galaxy S4, and close to the iPhone 5S’ rumored summer launch.
Heins says that it depends on the carriers which leaves open the possibility of a BlackBerry Q10 release date coming much sooner than that but at this point, things are looking bleak.

The BlackBerry Q10 features a 3.1-inch square AMOLED display with a 720×720 resolution and a higher pixel density than past BlackBerry smartphones. The back of the BlackBerry Q10 features a “glass weave” design that BlackBerry says makes the phone light and durable and of course, the phone also has one of BlackBerry’s iconic physical QWERTY keyboards making it perfect for someone who just can’t go the virtual keyboard route.
The device will run on the 4G LTE networks of the carrier’s in the United States meaning it will be able to obtain network speeds up to 10 times faster than typical 3G.
