Get ready for a new acronym. Alternate MAC/PHY is a technolgy that allows Bluetooth connectivity via WiFi and from the accounts I’m seeing it looks like it moves data pretty fast. Scheduled to debut in April, word is this isn’t one of those technologies that we’ll hear about for a couple of years before we see it on devices. In fact, according to Gizmodo, some phones may already be capable of delivering it already.
Basically the technology works like this. When two enabled devices meet up they go through the handshake. When a file transfer is detected control passes from BlueTooth to WiFi. When that task finishes, then BlueTooth takes over again.
