Most of us put a case on our iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S to keep it safe while we use it, but that has drawbacks.
Namely, if you want absolute protection you need to add significant bulk and weight, and even then a bad drop could damage your iPhone.
The team at CellPig was inspired to create an iPhone 4 an iPhone 4S case that protects your iPhone without adding too much bulk, and the easiest way to do that was to develop a great case and pair it with a one year iPhone warranty.
Yep, you read that right, CellHelmet is an iPhone case that handles the day-to-day protection and includes a warranty for the really bad drops and breaks. The one year warranty is backed by Global Warranty Group and covers accidental damage to your iPhone.
Another great thing about CellHelmet is that it covers new, used, jailbroken and unlocked iPhones. And you can buy it anytime to start your warranty, even though you can’t add coverage from Apple or SquareTrade more than 30 days after purchase.
The warranty covers unlimited repairs and one replacement, if your iPhone is too damaged to be fixed. The only drawback to the coverage that I see so far is the lack of water damage, but if enough users demand it we may see a case and warranty combo that includes it in the future.
The CellHelmet iPhone case will fit the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 and comes with a variety of color options so you can customize your iPhone’s look without changing cases.
The CellHelmet will be available in early March, but you can lock in one of the first CellHelmet cases with iPhone insurance by donating $40 at Kickstarter, where the team is raising the money to move into production. They’ve already cleared their goal, so this thing is a go. If you buy in on Kickstarter you save $5 off the retail price of the CellHelmet case.
Other iPhone Insurance Options: Compared to paying your carrier for insurance, $40 or $45 is a steal. Two years of coverage from AT&T or Verizon will run you between $160 and $260 and you still need to buy a case. Check out our Top 5 iPhone 4S insurance options for a more detailed breakdown of warranty and insurance options. Keep in mind carriers and other options may cover water damage or loss and theft, which the CellHelmet will not.
The Details: You must register your CellHelmet case within 30 days of purchase to get the iPhone 4S insurance and warranty coverage. If you need your device repaired or replaced you must pay a $50 handling fee (deductible). Water damage is not included.
