Circuit City to Close 155 Stores

Published

on

This isn’t good news. Rumors have been circulating for awhile and now it looks like it is true. Circuit City will be shuttering 155 stores, perhaps even before the big Black Friday shopping day after Thanksgiving. Circuit City has been limping through financial woes for some time now and by all accounts some changes were inevitable. The New York Stock Exchange had actually put Circuit City on notice because the stock price was trading so low. But it seems like not even the hope of high volume Christmas sales will help keep some stores from closing. Apparently we’ll hear which locations sometime tomorrow.

Too bad considering this year I’ve often found considerably better deals at CC than I have at Best Buy. Heck, even if I have to pay shipping through Amazon, I still find ordering from them is cheaper than Best Buy lately.

Good, in the past few years I have been very disappointed with their selection. The 2 or 3 stores near me have horrible customer service and I found the employees lack basic knowledge of their products or technology in general.

Well,I’m glad to see neither of the CC stores near me are closing, but I am not surprised that stores are closing. They really do have poor customer service and training; including long waits on the phone to resolve purchase errors by them. I have had to walk out of CC stores more than once for poor customer service, smart-aleck attitudes, and several times because the music playing in the car audio, home audio, or TV departments was so loud it hurt my ears.

I recently purchased a 40″ Sharp TV. They never could deliver it and after 3 weeks I canceled the order and re-ordered a Sony 40″ which arrived 3 days later and I am very happy with the price I paid, the setup and the delivery. Then the nightmare started. Phone messages and me returning calls constantly about when they could deliver the Sharp TV to me. I can’t believe how long I was on hold or transferred from dept to dept to get this straightened out. Then a month later a phone message is left again. We are delivering your Sharp TV tomorrow between 10am and 12pm, if your not there we will just leave the TV since you have failed to respond to any of our calls. My first thought was “Yea – a free TV!” But my honest side took over and I called them again to give them one more warning. This time I did all the talking and hung up. I told them if you deliver that TV that I have not purchased or call me again for delivery I will let it happen and the TV will be mine. You have been warned! And hung up. Hmm, no more calls since then.
