Color App for Verizon Subscribers Gains Audio

Published

on

Verizon showed off Color, a live video sharing app at CTIA 2012 in New Orleans today. Verizon and Color optimized the app for Verizon’s network, providing one important feature that goes unmatched by other carriers.

So what’s the killer feature that’s exclusive to Verizon’s network? Sound. Verizon customers now have the pleasure of beaming   both audio and video to their friends in real-time over Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Color users on other networks can only share silent video feeds with their friends.

Here’s a hands-on demonstration of Color on Verizon’s 4G LTE network that we shot at CTIA. As you can see in the demo, launching the app and tapping a couple of times opens up a live feed to Facebook friends. Verizon and Color limits sharing to 30 seconds, which isn’t a lot of time considering most friends won’t even see your ‘now broadcasting’ alerts before that time expires. Luckily, Color users can add a caption to their videos when they’re done and post the results to their Facebook timelines.

So why would someone use this app instead of placing a video call? For one, there’s no limit to how many people can view a live Color video feed. That means users can potentially share experiences with thousands of their closest friends.

The Color app is available now.

Verizon customers can dial “**color” on their smartphones for instructions on how to install the app if you prefer. Color is available in theApp Store for iPhone and Google Play for Android devices.

This is a joke. Why would i just restart every 30 seconds. The quality is worse than the native camera. Why wouldn’t I just use the native camera to record and then post to Facebook.

The video quality is bad and 30 seconds live video is too small. I don’t want to restart every 30 seconds. I agree with the above comment, I can record from the native camera and upload it to facebook, then why should I use color for 30 seconds video upload.

But the app design/user experience is simple and neat.
