Dell Recalls 4.1 Million Lithium-Ion Batteries

Published

on

In the largest safety recall in the history of consumer electronics, Dell is recalling 4.1 million notebook computer batteries because they could erupt in flames. The batteries were manufactured by Sony and installed in notebooks sold between April 2004 and July 18, 2006.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission states that the batteries in question are not unique to Dell and may prompt further recalls.

This will continue to heat up an already interesting discussion about mobile products containing lithium-ion batteries and airline safety I am sure.

UPDATE: Marc Orchant has published links to specific info on the recall from Dell, including which models and batteries are affected.
