As is the case with owners of the Droid RAZR, Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX owners are also waiting for a sign of the device’s Ice Cream Sandwich release date. Fortunately, it looks like relief might be coming soon.
After months of waiting, the Droid RAZR MAXX was released earlier this year and owners were promised Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the coming weeks, it appears that the journey might finally be coming to an end here in the waning part of June.
Motorola has promised the update for Droid RAZR MAXX owners during Q2 of 2012, which leaves Motorola and Verizon just a few weeks to keep that promise. Q2 covers April, May and June and the end of June is fast approaching.
However, the Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich update release date appears to be close as a test version of the software has recently hit test devices, a test version that might just be the last of its kind.
So that means that an Ice Cream Sandwich release date might not be too far off. Here is what to expect from the Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich release date.
Expect It To Arrive in June
With the test build arriving close to the end of June and Motorola saying that the update will indeed arrive in the second quarter, we have no reason to believe that the Droid RAZR MAXX Android 4.0 update won’t arrive in June.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that Verizon will use up all of that time to ensure that the update is ready to go. It’s only June 20th which means that it has just under two weeks to arrive before Motorola’s promise is shattered.
We don’t think Motorola and Verizon want to miss that deadline so look for the update to arrive in the next week or so.
Don’t Expect Good Communication
Verizon is not known for its communication skills when it comes to Android updates. An example of this is the fact that Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners waited for five months in silence before Verizon rolled out the update. And even then, it didn’t make a full-blown announcement once the software arrived.
The same will likely happen for the Droid RAZR MAXX ICS update. Verizon won’t say anything at all until right before the update arrives on the devices.
Asking Verizon or its Twitter support account will prove futile as they have about as much of a clue as Droid RAZR MAXX owners.
The update will likely arrive Over-The-Air aka OTA which means that it will be pushed by Verizon to Droid RAZR MAXX owners. This means that we expect one of two things to happen.
One, it might roll out to owners in a staggered fashion. This means that some owners will see it on day one while others might have to wait a few days before the software arrives.
If Verizon is nice, it will make the software available to everyone on day one. If that’s the case, owners will be able to head into the device’s settings and manually snag the update.
Clearly, Droid RAZR MAXX owners should be hoping for the latter.
And When It Does, the Droid RAZR MAXX Will Be a Better Phone
As with the Droid RAZR update, when the update does arrive, it will make the Droid RAZR MAXX that much better of a phone. Not only will it come packed with the new features that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich brings along, but it will likely bring various bug fixes and enhancements as well.
This means that those that have been having issues will likely see those issues disappear with the software. Of course, there is always the possibility that more issues will come to the surface, but let’s hope not.
With Android 4.0 on board, the Droid RAZR MAXX and its slim battery should sell even better on Verizon. Well, at least until the Droid RAZR HD arrives.
