The Element Formula 4 iPhone case has an amazing blend of functionality, protection and a sense of style.
Just by taking a glance at the case it is easy to tell that it is more than the average iPhone case. The Formula 4 has a distinct set of features that make it a great choice for any iPhone 4 or 4S.
Some of these features include a removable bottom section for easy docking, easy access to the ports and buttons, and a carbon fiber backplate for robust protection.
The Formula 4 has a very tactile feel to it, and is all black with the polycarbonate body that surrounds the edges of the iPhone. A cool feature of this case is how it looks when it is flipped to the back. The carbon fiber backplate is one of my favorite features of this case as it is both protective and cool to look at.
Besides the aesthetics the Formula 4 also does a great job of protecting the iPhone. During the time I used this case, it’s endured a baker’s dozen of falls and drops.
Luckily this case is made to take a hit and so far it has yet to fail me. The polycarbonate material is durable and offers some protection for the front side of the iPhone. The case offers protection for the front side glass with a raised edge. If the iPhone would fall on its face the ground would hopefully hit the edge before the glass.
Beyond protection, the case also offers a great solution to docking the iPhone in alarm clocks and radios. The problem with some iPhone cases is that they are not made to be compatible with dock connectors in most accessories. Element fixes this by making the bottom section of the case removable. Although I do not usually use a dock, the feature works very well and the piece does not fall off of the case during normal usage.
One other area where the Formula 4 excels is in the access to ports and buttons. Along the right side of the case Element has a cutout area for a great way to use the volume and mute switch. Also the Formula 4 gives plenty of space at the bottom for the 30-pin dock connector.
One port that could use more space around it is the headphone jack. This is the only gripe that I have with this case as not all headphone cables will fit into the small space. The cable that I use in my car was too fat to fit into the cases tiny port, but cables such as the iPhone headset will fit. Although it is not the end of the world if you listen to a lot of music it may become an annoyance.
Overall I would highly recommend buying the Element Formula 4 iPhone case. With good drop protection, decent style, and a removable dock connector this is a great iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S case. If you can get by the slightly limited headphone jack access, and lack of other colors it is a no brainer for a cheaper iPhone 4 or 4S case with a great deal of usability.
