ENERGEN DroneMax 360 Review: Incredible Portable Drone Charger

Published

on

The biggest hurdle to having fun with a drone like the DJI Mavic Pro or other common consumer drones is battery life. Even with two batteries I often run out of power before I’m ready to call it quits. The ENERGEN DroneMax 360 solves that problem, providing an easy and fast way to charge drone batteries, your controller, phone, iPad or even a computer.

This smart charger can charge various drone batteries and it can even charge a 3 cell battery and a 4 cell battery at the same time. It’s perfect for helping a friend charge up when they go out to fly with you.

I love the flexibility that the DroneMax 360 offers. I can charge my drone batteries, all of my accessories and even plug in my laptop so that I can pull the footage off and look at it without worrying about power for a full session in the field. In addition to being a great drone tool, it’s perfect as a backup power source at home if the power goes out.

I’ve tested over 100 backup batteries in my career and the DroneMax 360 is the most versatile and exciting battery yet. At $159 through KickStarter it’s an insane value, and even at the full retail of $350 it’s an attractive charging solution for drone enthusiasts and outdoor lovers.

The DroneMax 360 is an all in one solution. With the 207Wh battery pack you get a collection of drone battery adapters so you can charge the batteries directly. That means you don’t need to carry your original charging cable with you, and it makes charging multiple batteries easy. DroneMax charges 20% faster than the standard charger so I can get back to flying faster.

In addition to directly charging my Drone batteries there are the following charging ports that I find helpful;

  • 2 USB A Ports with Quick Charge 3 Support
  • 2 USB C Ports with Quick Charge 3 Support
  • 2 AC Outlets
  • 12V Charging Port to Plug in any item you normally charge in your car.

I tested the DroneMax 360 with DJI Mavic Pro batteries, but it is compatible with the DJI Phantom series, DJI Mavic Air, and Yuneec drones. There are a whole collection of included adapters that make it easy to charge. I charged two batteries for my Mavic Pro in short order and I was finally able to charge both batteries at once. Normally I use the charger that came with my drone and I can only charge one battery at a time.

When working outdoors at full brightness, my MacBook Pro battery can drain very fast. Thanks to the AC adapters I can plug my laptop in and recharge so that it is easy to review footage while far away from power. Thanks to the Quick Charge 3.0 ports I can fast charge my Galaxy S9+ and iPhone X on the go. I found the DroneMax 360 is quick to charge using the included adapter. You can also buy a version with a solar panel to charge up with the sun.

The DroneMax 360 is solidly build out of aluminum and it comes with a rubber protective case that adds carry handles. The battery is hefty at 7.2 pounds, but that’s a tradeoff you have to make for all the power it provides. The included carrying cars is water resistant and tough so it will protect your DroneMax unit. I like that straps hold the battery in place and there is a separate compartment to hold all of the battery adapters as well as the DroneMax 360 charger. There is also a shoulder strap to make the package easier to carry.

Although the DroneMax 360 is on Kickstarter, ENERGEN is a well known company who makes a wide range of chargers that are sold at B&H Photo, Amazon, Cabelas and many other retailers.
