As you level up, you'll earn points to put into different S.P.E.C.I.A.L traits and Perks. These are extremely important because they'll not only shape your character but they'll shape how you play the game.

If you're new to Fallout or open-world RPGs, you're going to want to do some research so that you design the right build for your play style. The last thing you want to do is waste a point or two on traits or perks that aren't beneficial. Early points are an investment so spend them wisely. 

There are a few ways to accomplish this research. You can buy a guide or you can check out the Fallout 4 Wiki and Wikia for free. Don't waste your points.

One other thing to know. While you might be tempted to max out your attributes, remember that Bobbleheads and You Are Special books will add additional stat points.

So before you start pushing to the max, try and find these and think about some other places that could use some points.
