Foldable ThinkPad Coming to Retailers

ThinkPads are the notebooks of choice at many large businesses, but it’s all but impossible for small businesses and consumers to check them out in person before they buy. That changes a bit as the Lenovo ThinkPad  YOGA 14 is set to hit store shelves later this month. The foldable notebook is geared towards small business users and can serve double duty as a Windows tablet.

The Lenovo ThinkPad  YOGA 14 starts at $1,119 and packs quite a few features for the price. It looks a lot like most corporate-issued ThinkPads, but it has several creature comforts so it can serve double duty and serve as an entertainment notebook as well.

The ThinkPad YOGA 14 is pretty similar to the smaller ThinkPad YOGA 12. As its name suggests, the newer model has a 14″ display. As you can see in the above video, the ThinkPad YOGA 14’s display folds flat against the back of the base. The keyboard buttons retract in tablet mode to create a mostly smooth surface.

The ThinkPad YOGA 14 can be outfitted with up to 8GB of memory, NVIDIA GeForce 840M graphics, and a 1TB hybrid hard drive with a 16GB SSD accelerator.  The ThinkPad features a USB port that doubles as a power charging port. Combining the DC adapter input and the USB port means Lenovo’s able to provide three USB ports rather than two, which is all the designers would’ve been able to fit on the computer if they used a traditional power port.  There’s an available dock to use with an external monitor and other accessories. The ThinkPad YOGA 14 has stereo speakers that work with included Dolby Home Theater v4 software to make the most out of music and movies. You’ll still want to use headphones or external speakers when possible, but the attention to audio provides a much better listening experience than what’s found on most laptops. Lenovo claims that the YOGA 14 will run for up to 8 hours on a single charge.

Lenovo released a range of mobile devices today, including an innovative Android tablet that doubles as a projector. You can read more about the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro here.
