Today is the fourth birthday of Apple’s iconic product, the iPhone. On June 29th 2007, Apple launched the iPhone across the United States and arguably changed the mobile landscape forever.

Four years and three iPhones later, the iPhone is still as relevant as ever with millions of owners across the world. And whether you love or hate the iPhone there is no denying that it’s an extremely influential device and one that deserves to be celebrated.

Here are four things we think should be celebrated on the iPhone’s 4th anniversary/birthday.

Its Apps

When the iPhone first launched, it did so without the iTunes App Store. It launched a year later on June 9th, 2008 and by July 11th, it boasted over 500 apps for iPhone owners to download. Fast forward to now and there is a slight difference in the numbers from three years ago. The App Store is now home to over 500,000 applications for consumption and it’s difficult to remember a time when the App Store wasn’t such an integral part of the iPhone and its success.

As the years have gone on, the applications for the iPhone have only gotten better and we’re extremely excited to see what developers and the App Store have in store for us in the future. Speaking of the future…

Its Good Looking Future

Yeah, we’ve already had a fair share of iPhone models but there won’t be a shortage of innovation anytime soon. From the development of 4G LTE to the high resolution Retina Display on the iPhone 4, the iPhone has a bright future ahead of it and we can only assume that this great device is only going to get better and better as the years go on.

Its Convenience

Think about how many things the iPhone has slowly started to or already replaced. It has replaced a camera in a lot of scenarios. It serves as an alternative for books. Heck, it’s even made the need for an iPod obsolete. Now, think of how much you rely on it. To check the weather. To keep your schedule organized. To check email on-the-go. The list of these conveniences almost seem limitless and the more you think about them, the more you can appreciate what the iPhone has brought to the table.

Its Competition

Whether you like it or not, the iPhone has been the source of smartphone innovation over the last several years. From devices rocking Android to Windows Phone 7,  we have seen a steady stream of hardware hit the shelves with hints of the iPhone. The competition has been fantastic and has produced some pretty iconic devices not called the iPhone including the Motorola Droid, the HTC EVO 4G and more.

This competition has also provided choice of screen sizes, processor speeds and operating systems just to name a few. Android and Windows Phone are both exciting competitors to the iPhone and we should celebrate them as well.

However, it’s the iPhone’s day today and we think that everyone should put their differences they may have with it aside, if even for a moment, to honor a remarkable device that has truly changed the way we live.
