Fujitsu Introduces ScanSnap iX100 Mobile Scanner

Published

on

Fujitsu released the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX100 mobile scanner, calling it the “world’s lightest and fastest wireless scanner.” The lithium-ion battery makes the iX100 portable and wireless connectivity makes it useful on computers and mobile devices while on the go.

A mobile scanner helps business users and students go paperless. When a colleague or teacher hands out papers in a meeting or a class, users can just quickly scan them through the scanner and right onto a laptop, tablet or phone. Once imported to the device, the user can mark up the documents or photos using an app or software instead of keeping up with a bunch of sheets of paper and writing directly on the originals. It’s also a great way to keep control over paper, bills and receipts in a small home office. Some document scanners take up as much room as a printer, so a small wireless battery-powered scanner can cut down on clutter.

Fujitsu Computer Products of America Inc ScanSnap iX100

The Fujitsu ScanSnap iX100 weighs under a pound at only 14 ounces. The scanner measures slightly wider than a letter or letter size piece of paper. Because of the battery, the scanner won’t take up that much space in a computer bag or book bag. Check it out in this video:

The scanner connects to the user’s tablet or phone over a Wi-Fi network or directly. The company’s free Android, iOS or Kindle apps will help the user organize all of the content they import to their phone or tablet. The scanner comes with Windows or Mac software for use on a computer. This software will organize all the content scanned with the ScanSnap iX100.

The user can connect over their local Wi-Fi network, or they can connect directly to the scanner via the mobile devices Wi-Fi for those times when linking up over a Wi-Fi network isn’t possible.

Scanning only takes about 5 seconds for a single sheet of paper. The mobile device app or computer software imports the scanned image as either JPG files or as Adobe PDF files. Users can scan a single sheet or multiple sheets. The software will also combine multiple sheets into a single document.

Export the images from the app to other documents to save for later, mark them up, share with others or just back up to the cloud.

The ScanSnap iX100 costs $229 direct from Fujitsu, however it shows as “not in stock” at present. Included in the price is the scanner software that handles business cards, receipts and larger letter or legal size paper. The software, will create documents with multiple pages stitched together or single JPG images.

The computer software looks a bit like a file manager application. Here’s a screenshot of the Windows application:

CardMinder handles business cards. The app will take the scanned business card and extract the contact information and send it to the computer’s contact software.

ScanSnap Receipt does the same as CardMinder only for receipts.
