In our last slide we mentioned the micro-SD slot and the battery. These are two HUGE points that made many buyers pass on the Galaxy S6 last year. Samsung took notice, and made major changes that all potential customers can appreciate.
This year Samsung took care of both of those problems. The Galaxy S7 Edge now has 32GB of storage, and can take up to 256GB micro-SD cards for owners to expand storage for photos, videos, music and more. This was the number one complaint from owners, followed by battery life. The battery still isn't removable, but it's a huge 3,600 mAh battery on a 5.5-inch device. Even the 5.7-inch Galaxy S6 Edge Plus only had a 3,000 mAh battery. Meaning the Galaxy S7 Edge has a smaller screen that's better and more efficient, a more efficient processor, a battery saving version of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and tons of new technology to make the phone recharge faster, along with a bigger 3,600 mAh battery.
The Galaxy S7 Edge features Quick Charging (or Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging) which allows it to recharge form 0-50% in around 25 minutes, and from 0-100% in about 85 minutes. It's worth noting that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge do not have Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Instead they're using Quick Charge 2.0 from last year. Likely to make the phone similar to the international model that has a Samsung processor, rather than a Qualcomm chipset here in the US, and to preserve the life of the non-removal battery.
QC 3.0 could be nice, as it recharges the phone form 0-80% in 35 minutes, but the S7 Edge is bigger, still charges extremely fast, and won't be an issue. The Galaxy S7 Edge easily lasts 24-30 hours on a single charge, including 4-5 hours of heavy "screen-on time" which is important. It lasts longer than the Galaxy S6 Edge+ with daily tasks, heavy gaming, and everything else for that matter. |
