GeoHot isn’t Working on an iOS 6 Jailbreak Called YellowRa1n
The supposed return of George Hotz, aka GeoHot to the jailbreak scene yesterday caused a stir as a Twitter account with GeoHot’s photo and name began posting links to videos of an iOS 6 jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and sending a tweet to @pod2g and others claiming he was working on an iOS 6.1 jailbreak.
The account shared half a dozen photos of IOS 6 jailbreak screenshots on the iPhone 4S, iPad mini and claimed to be waiting for the iOS 6.1 release to start work on the jailbreak.
I Won’t Be Releasing A Jailbreak for iOS 6.0.1 But I Will Be Releasing A Jailbreak For 6.1
— George Hotz (GeoHot) (@GGeoHot) January 17, 2013
The supposed GeoHot then messaged all the current iOS 6 jailbreak team, and other notable jailbreak hackers, which would lead to confirmation he is a fake.
@pod2g I’m Working On The iOS 6.1 Jailbreak And I’m Back @iphoeniix @ih8sn0w @pimskeks @nitotv @musclenerd

As it turns out, George Hotz, is not working on an iOS 6 jailbreak. We don’t know exactly where George Hotz is, or what he is up to, but it’s certainly not an iOS 6 jailbreak.
Twitter user @nitoTV confirmed to Gotta Be Mobile that the account is not real, saying, “he is a total fake.” @nitoTV originally said he wasn’t able to verify on Twitter, but after a short period posted that this is not the real GeoHot.
GeoHot gained fame for unlocking the iPhone so users could use it on other networks outside of AT&T, back before Apple sold the iPhone on multiple carriers. Hotz is also known for the limera1n jailbreak tool and hacking the Sony PlayStation 3.
This isn’t the first iOS 6 jailbreak fake we’ve come across, but it is one of the more elaborate ones using a known hackers name. The most outlandish one, DreamJB, took place in December. The creator claims he pulled the elaborate hoax to teach users a lesson.
Typically iOS 6 jailbreak and iPhone 5 jailbreak fakes attempt to gain notoriety or to trick users into paying for a fake jailbreak. Every day we come across multiple fake news stories about a new iOS 6 jailbreak or a $30 iPhone 5 jailbreak. These sites often advertise a money back guarantee, but the terms make getting any money back a near impossible task, which may include sending the iPhone in to prove it didn’t work.
Planetbeing is in possession of a real iPhone 5 jailbreak running on iOS 6.0.2. This is an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak which would allow users to complete a jailbreak and reboot the phone without being plugged into the computer.
Don’t fall for a fake, and never pay for a jailbreak. Stay tuned for the latest iOS 6 jailbreak news.

“Don’t fall for a fake, and never pay for a jailbreak.” Yet your articles are sponsored by fake jailbreak sites. Irony?
