After selling out completely after the iPhone 5s release date, the gold iPhone 5s has seen its shipping times improve through the Apple Store with Apple saying that it will be shipping out variants of the gold variant within two to three weeks, a big improvement over the vague October shipping date that it had listed prior to today.
Last month, Apple launched the iPhone 5s alongside the iPhone 5c, releasing both devices on September 20th. And while the iPhone 5c has been widely available to consumers looking for a new smartphone, the iPhone 5s has proven difficult to find thanks to consumer demand, particularly with the new gold iPhone 5s.
Shortly after the iPhone 5s’ arrival, the gold iPhone 5s sold out completely through the Apple Store and the various carriers and retailers where the device was sold. Apple pegged the device’s return for October without elaborating on a specific date. Today, the gold iPhone 5s shipping times improved for the first time since launch with Apple’s online Apple Store now showing shipping times within two to three weeks, meaning those who order today should receive it sometime during the month of October.
While there is improvement on the online Apple Store, the device should still prove hard to find at physical retail locations as stores appear to still have extremely low stock with stores in Southern California sold out of gold iPhone 5s stock at the moment. The improvement in the online store could positively impact retail locations but at the moment, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Carrier shipping times haven’t eased either as AT&T and Verizon are still showing shipping times that are several weeks out rather than just a couple of weeks out. Historically, iPhone shipping times have not regressed so it’s impossible that gold iPhone 5s shipping times, at least through the Apple Store, will hold until they get to the typical two day shipping times.
Both the gray and silver iPhone 5s models remain at two to three weeks and should see shipping times improve as the weeks go on. Apple’s iPhone 5c is current unaffected by supply issues and is available to ship out in 24 hours.
Apple isn’t done either. The company is heavily rumored to be announcing new iPads in the coming weeks including an iPad mini 2 and an iPad 5. The devices are expected to replace the iPad 4 and iPad mini, joining the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c on the Apple Store.
