Google Delays Nexus Q Launch To Make It Better

Despite putting the Nexus Q up for sale on the Play Store, Google is delaying the consumer release of the Nexus Q.

According to The Verge, Google sent out a statement to users who ordered the Nexus Q telling them that the consumer launch won’t happen as planned. The team behind the project made the decision so it can have more time to make the device better.

The official statement reads:

We have an important update about your Nexus Q pre-order. When we announced Nexus Q at Google I/O, we gave away devices to attendees for an early preview. The industrial design and hardware were met with great enthusiasm. We also heard initial feedback from users that they want Nexus Q to do even more than it does today. In response, we have decided to postpone the consumer launch of Nexus Q while we work on making it even better. To thank you for your early interest, we’d like to extend the Nexus Q preview to our pre-order customers and send you a free device. If you had other items in your order, your credit card will be charged for those items only. Your Nexus Q will be on its way soon and you will receive a notification and tracking number from Google Play when it ships. The Nexus Q Team

The Nexus Q has been delayed.

It sounds like the lukewarm and negative reviews for the Nexus Q got to somebody on the Nexus Q team. When Google announced the device, we weren’t sure who would find it useful, but now it sounds like Google wants to make it a more useful device.

We’re not sure what direction the Nexus Q Team will take the device in, but we hope it makes the device more like an Apple TV or Roku box instead of a very expensive device that reminds us of the Sonos. It would actually make sense for the company to put GoogleTV on the device.

Hopefully those users who did buy the Nexus Q and will now receive a free units are hackers and developers as they might be able to find out what we can do with the spherical set-top box.
