Google Expands the Search Box Size and Everyone Goes Crazy

Harrumph. Call me crazy, but the news that Google has increased the size of the search box on its home page shouldn’t really be that big of a deal. But then I guess it is to some. To be honest when I first looked at the before and after page, I didn’t notice a fundamental difference. But then I rarely use the Google home page to search anyway, preferring the search box in a browser.

You should be able to click the image below for a larger view.

What do you use? The home page, the search box, or another provider?

I can’t remember the last time I used the Google Homepage. Some of my coworkers have been known to Google, “Google” in the browser search box and then search for what they want!

I always use Google so I noticed the change immediately this morning, didn’t like it so I found a greasemonkey script that returns it to the previous size.

It’s just what I’m used to, not like it’s a big deal or anything but I like the smaller size, it’s personal preference. I’d rather they gave the option of whether to have the larger size or not in the search options page.

i can’t see any difference. i already have the page zoomed in so i can see it. however, i never even use the google search page. i don’t see why it would be such a big deal to people. the only thing that changed is less empty white space, with a bigger target in the center.

where can i find this greasemonkey script?

i also dislike the increase size. If I wanted giant font, I’d do it myself.

The font size just got too large for the page, and I didn’t do anything. REally annoying. How do I change it back? If i can’t, so long Google. Over to yahoo.
