Google Maps App Submission for iOS Likely False

There has been rumors that since Apple has retooled its mapping app on the iPhone to eschew the Google service in favor of its homegrown service that Google would submit a Google Maps app for iOS as a competing app. However, according to The Loop‘s Jim Dalrymple, that may not be the case as Dalrumple claims that the rumors are in fact false.

Dalrymple’s terse comments were originally posted on Apple Insider.

It’s unclear what Dalrymple knows as Google could very likely produce a Google Maps third-party app for iOS users. After it was announced that Apple would no longer make the YouTube app a pre-loaded app on iOS 6 for the iPhone, Google responded by offering a YouTube app through Apple’s App Store as a free download.

Speculations have been high that Google may jump back into the mapping space on iOS as the maps version that Apple has released for iOS 6 has been short on features and have encountered numerous criticism from users since the mobile OS was made available for download for older iPhones. Google Maps on Android has been one of the positive features of the platform as it provides a great experience and also offers free turn-by-turn spoken driving instructions.

Before Apple had announced its own mapping solution for iOS, it had been rumored that the departure from Google may be due to the fact that that Google was not providing access to the latest mapping features that it was providing to its own mobile Android platform. There may be other reasons why Apple is shunning Google, such as trying to shut off Google from iOS user data.

I would like Google to announce they will make an IOS5 map program available to Apple as soon as they clear up all of the lawsuits Apple has filed against them because they have used all of their available funds to hire lawyers.
