Google Preps to Allow for Uploading Files on Google Docs

Official Google Docs Blog_ Upload and store your files in the cloud with Google DocsGoogle wants your stuff in its cloud. Google is in the process of allowing you to upload any file to a Google Docs account (1GB free storage $0.25 per GB over that per year), and let you do so through a direct download as long as the file is 250MB or smaller. The direct upload will certainly be easier than emailing files to yourself. Of course you can then access those files from any computer. Certainly the benefits of this are apparent if you need to access larger files from the cloud for sharing purposes or backup purposes, and this of course puts Google into more competition with the legion of cloud services that already exist.

This will be extremely handy. No need to have docs and spreadsheets at Google, other files elsewhere. What about security? Will files be encrypted on the Google server? Am I able to use my own private encryption key?

This is great. There are other companies doing the same thing but not at this scale.
