The Online Heists co-operative multiplayer mode that developer Rockstar promised to GTA 5 players on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4 last year, has finally arrived.
Title updated containing Online Heists began going out this morning, according to a post on Rockstar Newswire, the official source for any news regarding games made by Rockstar. Getting the update is pretty straight forward on most consoles. The Xbox One and PS4 should download the Online Heists update automatically if they’re connected to the internet. Xbox 360 and PS3 users are prompted to download the Online Heists update the moment they open the game.
Besides Online Heists for GTA Online, this new update contains a few other features too. One feature gives a team of “hunters” motorcycles and ATVs, then has them hunt down the well-armed opposition. Another mode tasks users with standing their grown as a stream of enemies pour into to kill them at any cost. Yet another mode gives users a bus and tasks them with running down cyclists around them. Supplementing this are Freemode Activities. Simply put, users roam the world and pull off different small tasks for in-game cash and extras.
Grand Theft Auto Online is a living, breathing online world. To keep that alive Rockstar has to give players a reason to dive into the game every day. That’s where Daily Objectives come in. Now logging in day after day to complete different tasks earns users more in-game cash. This new daily rewards system is great for anyone trying to slowly build up their money reserve for the latest vehicles and weapons. You need in-game cash to purchase the different extras in GTA Online.
Online Heists are epic. At least philosophically, they’re similar to the big missions from the single player world in GTA 5. The fun all starts with a Crew Leader who owns a high-end apartment, has purchased a mission board and reached Level 12. The Crew Leader bankrolls the operation, setting the different tasks and deciding which of their friends will handle specific parts of the job. It’ll also be their character that gets the game save.
Individual players can join any old crew, but Rockstar awards extra in-game cash for completing all 5 Online Heists with the same crew. Online Heists has some variety, what each player experiences changes based on their role in the heist. Online Heist Crew Members earn money as smaller missions building up to the big Heist get completed. It’ll be on the Crew Leader to finance the Heist, but Crew Members are responsible for having the basics like the necessary clothing and firearms. Some essentials are provided, but not all.
There are 20 individual Online Heist related missions in all. That plus all the different positions in a given crew mean users are getting hours of great in-game content absolutely free of charge. Of course, GTA Online players can free roam and spawn havoc if they choose to do that for hours at a time too.
Again, Online Heists are apart of GTA Online. To get GTA Online players need a digital or disc-based copy of GTA 5 for the Xbox One, PS4, PS3 or Xbox 360. At GameStop, a new copy of GTA 5 for the Xbox One and PS4 sells for $60. Used copies of GTA 5 for Xbox 360 and PS3 are selling for $39.99. The retailer is only offering a $5 discount for used copies of the Xbox One and PS4 versions.
Missing from this line-up is GTA 5 for Windows PCs. Originally, that version would have launched earlier this year. Now Rockstar is promising a GTA 5 for PC release date of April 14th. GTA 5 for PC will include Online Heists when it launches.
