If Microsoft is counting on Halo: The Master Chief Collection to carry sales of its Xbox One console to new heights during the holiday season, than it’ll need every trick it can think of to make sure its gets out word about the game. Last week it launched a full-length documentary about Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s Halo 2 remake. This week the company began airing a new ad set to “We Will Rock You.”
A Halo: The Master Chief Collection ad featuring the popular song appeared on video site YouTube earlier today. Different weapons are used in the advertisement as a substitute for drums. Then all the action starts. This new Halo: The Master Chief Collection ad is roughly 30 seconds of action. In it we see John 117, taking on just about every major enemy from every game included in the collection.
The Halo: The Master Chief Collection ad ends with a description of exactly what the game is. “Four blockbusters in one.”
The first year fate of the Xbox One rests largely on the shoulders of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Microsoft has been heavily promoting the game ever since it revealed its existence at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.
Forget what you know about the typical games, Halo: The Master Chief Collection defies almost every conventional thing about them. Halo: The Master Chief Collection isn’t a new adventure in the long-running game saga. Xbox One owners will have to wait until next year’s Halo 5: The Guardians before they get that. Instead, Halo: The Master Collection is a bundle of every major Halo game in the series except two, all for just $60.
Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3 and Halo 4 are all included in the package. Users get access to high-definition remakes complete with upgraded textures and new lighting systems. Each single player mission is included for Halo: Master Chief Collection buyers and in the case of Halo 2 Anniversary buyers can expect completely re-made cut scenes. Single player story is a huge focus in this game, Microsoft wants players to be able to relieve the major plot points of the entire franchise by just purchasing this one game for their Xbox One. That’s why there’s a playlist maker that stitches together moments across the entire franchise.
Don’t think Microsoft is shorting multiplayer either though. Every multiplayer mode from every single game in the collection is also included. Again, those have been touched up and are presented to users in high-definition, however Microsoft has changed a single mechanic behind the scenes. In sort, every glitch that players remember form Halo 2 will still be around in this game too.
Of all the included games Halo 2: Anniversary includes the biggest changes. In it and Halo: Combat Evolved players can actually switch between the new graphics that are at home on the Xbox One and the graphics they remember from the original Xbox console. Many of the sounds in the game have been redone and the game includes fresh music recorded for inclusion in the game.
There’s also a ton of extras included with Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Buying the game is the only way to participate in the Halo 5: The Guardians beta that is set to launch on December 27th. Microsoft is also throwing in free access to Halo: Nightfall, a live action television show that takes place in the same universe as the Halo games and sets up for Halo 5. Whether users will be able to get access to Halo: Nightfall outside of The Master Chief Collection remains unclear.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection launches November 11th for the Xbox One and Microsoft is already taking digital pre-orders through it’s Xbox Store. Physical copies of the game are also available for pre-order from places like GameStop and Best Buy. Regardless of whether you purchase a digital version or not, expect the game to need a pretty big patch before you can play.
