There are a lot of Anthem problems and the two biggest issues right now are crashes and Anthem bricking the PS4 for some users. If your PS4 doesn’t work after an Anthem crash you may still be able to save it. This is not a complete fix, and if this gets you back to playing then you may want to hold off on playing Anthem until there is an all clear.
While this is not a complete fix for a bricked PS4, there is a good chance that the file structure is simply broken due to the PS4 shutting down unexpectedly during the Anthem crashes. You can fix this by rebuilding the PS4 database from Safe Mode. The suggestion comes from Reddit where user katcher12 says it fixed a similar issue with an older game.
How to Fix an Anthem Bricked PS4
This process is easy to do, but you will need to spend some time to get into Safe Mode and to wait for the process to complete. You should make sure that you do not choose initialize, which will erase your console. If you follow these directions you should be able to get back into your PS4 to play other games without losing any data or waiting for EA or Sony.
- Turn the PS4 off.
- Press and hold the PS4 Power button on the console until you hear two beeps.
- Connect a PS4 controller with a USB cable when the system asks you to.
- Move down to option 5, Rebuild Database.
- This may take an hour or longer.
Wait for this process to complete and then start the PS4 up normally. This should allow you to play games on your PS4, but it will not stop another Anthem crash that could put you back into the same position.
EA is still working on a solution or an Anthem patch to fix the problem. It’s a good idea to wait for that before you jump back into Anthem on the PS4, and maybe even on the PC.
