How to Sync Email and Calendar to iPhone

When you want to access your email and calendar on your iPhone, there are a couple of options to choose from, but if you want to use iOS’s built-in functions, here’s how to set it up.

There are many third-party apps that you can download and install that allow you to view your email and calendar, like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, etc. And many of these apps are really good, coming with all sorts of features. However, if you like Apple’s default Mail and Calendar app on the iPhone, there’s a way you can use those apps by syncing your email and calendar information from a different service.

For instance, if you use Gmail, you could simply install the Gmail app from the iTunes App Store and be done with it, but since the default Mail app integrates better into iOS, many users prefer using that, but how do you use the default Mail app with your Gmail account or other email account? We’ll show you how.

Sync Your Email & Calendar to iPhone

If you want to use the built-in Mail and Calendar apps in iOS 8, here’s how you can import your email client information to the app and sync Gmail, Yahoo Mail or whatever with the Mail and Calendar apps so that you have a seamless experience.

First, open up the Settings app and then scroll down and tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Up toward the top, tap on Add Account.

You’ll see a list of options available, including Google (Gmail), Yahoo, AOL and Outlook. Choose one by tapping on it. If you don’t see your email client, tap on Other.

On the next page, you’ll type in your name, email address, and the password to that account. Tap Next in the upper-right corner when you’re done and iOS will verify the information.

Once verified, the next page will have you select the information that you want synced from your email client, including your email, contacts, calendar and any notes. Toggle any of these that you want and then tap on Save in the upper-right corner.

From there, you can open up the Mail and Calendar apps and see all of your email and calendar appointments from Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or whatever other service that you use. It’s really simple to set up.

Mail App vs Third-Party Options

Many users like using third-party app options, while others enjoy sticking with built-in options for the best compatibility and integration, but which on is best for you?

For example, if you use Gmail, there’s a Gmail app that you can download from the iTunes App Store. It includes many of the same features as the web interface, so going between the two is seamless and familiar. However, the swipe gestures that are found in the default Mail app make it a lot easier to navigate and manage your email, while the Gmail app doesn’t include this.

Personally, I like the Gmail app since the interface is similar to the web interface, meaning that I can get close to the same features on both platforms, and tags work the same as well, which is super useful. However, I do like the simple user interface of the built-in Mail app, but it’s not enough to get me to use it full-time.

There are pros and cons to each option, and the best way to see which one works best for you is to give each app a test drive and see which one fits your style the best.
