Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 is meant to be used on desktops, tablets, 2-in-1s and anything else in between. The company touts this as how it plans to keep its software and services available anywhere and everywhere that a potential user might be. Many of the features that enable that vision also allow Windows 8.1 users to effortlessly switch between multiple devices, chief among them tab syncing in Internet Explorer

Here’s how to sync tabs in Windows 8.1 using Internet Explorer and access what you’ve been browsing from any other computer running Windows 8.1.

Setting Up Tab Syncing

Thanks to Microsoft’s decision to integrate SkyDrive directly into Windows 8.1, setting up tab syncing is incredibly easy. In fact, as long as you’ve logged in with a Microsoft Account, the accounts that allow you to download apps and games from the Windows Store, you should already have everything ready to go.

Need to check if you’re signed into your device with a Microsoft account?

Place your mouse cursor in the top-right corner of your screen to open the Charms Bar. You can also open this menu by swiping from the right edge of your display to the left too. Click or tap on Settings.

Now look just below your username and to the left of your account image. If there’s a Hotmail, Live or Outlook email address listed there, then you’re signed in with your Microsoft Account. If there isn’t, you’ll need to create a Microsoft Account and sign in with it here before tab syncing will work.

Using Tab Syncing

Using tab syncing in Windows 8.1 is incredibly easy, too. You only need to login into another Windows 8.1-equipped laptop, tablet or convertible with the same Microsoft Account.

Go to the Start Screen by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard or the Windows button below your tablet or convertible’s display.

Click on the downward facing arrow in the bottom-left corner of your display. If you’re using a device with touch, simply place your finger anywhere on the Start Screen’s and drag it upward.
