HTC Launching 5-Inch Galaxy Note 2 Competitor?

A new report suggests that HTC will be releasing a 5-inch competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phablet at some point during the months of September or October.

According to Digitimes, which has been hit or miss with rumors in the past, HTC is planning on releasing a large screen smartphone of its own. The device is rumored to sport a 5-inch display with fantastic resolution. The report claims the device will have a display that boasts 1794 by 1080 pixel resolution.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is rumored to have 720p resolution, specifically, 1280×720 pixels. That resolution was seemingly confirmed by a benchmark.

HTC is rumored to be working on a Galaxy Note competitor.

It could be that HTC’s new device is the same Verizon-bound HTC device that appeared in a GLBenchmark a short time ago. That device, the HTC 6435LVW, is headed to Verizon with a similar screen resolution, Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and a dual-core S4 processor from Qualcomm.

The fact that HTC might be working on a Galaxy Note competitor isn’t shocking whatsoever. The Galaxy Note, despite initial questions about its attractiveness to the masses, has gone on to sell very well around the world.

So well, that Samsung plans to announce the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 at an event in Berlin, Germany on August 29th. Samsung has not yet confirmed any of the Note 2’s specifications but rumors point to a 5.5-inch device with an HD display, quad-core processor and a design based heavily on that of the Galaxy S III.

The Galaxy Note 2 is also rumored to have an upgraded camera and either Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

And because Samsung is announcing it at the end of August, it might hit shelves as soon as September.

HTC has yet to confirm anything but if we had to guess, IFA in Berlin is as good of an event as any to debut a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 competitor.
