HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat Update Heads to Verizon (Update)
While it may have missed the initial 90 days promise HTC made to deliver Android 4.4 KitKat to the HTC One series, the wait wasn’t long because Verizon owners are up next.
Last week HTC officials confirmed the update would miss the 90 day window, but not by much, and shortly thereafter confirmed it was already rolling out for Sprint HTC One owners. Now less than a week after Sprint was the first US carrier to get KitKat, this morning HTC confirmed Verizon users are up next.
Update: It appears to already be rolling out this afternoon. Meaning Verizon HTC One owners should start checking for updates to get the latest and greatest. Here’s the changelog.
HTC executives have been extremely helpful in 2014 by keeping users up to date on mediums like Twitter regarding software updates, and today is no different. As usual @MoVersi has announced that Verizon approved the update to Android 4.4 KitKat and Sense UI 5.5 for the HTC One, and we can expect the rollout to begin shortly.
HTC One Verizon Owners! We have received technical approval for the OS 4.4 + Sense 5.5 update today. Expect the OTA out shortly. Thanks!

Along with Android 4.4 KitKat the update brings an improved Sense UI 5.5 software interface. Users can expect some changes and tweaks to the popular Blinkfeed feature, including an option to turn it off completely. Camera and gallery improvements are coming with this update, including more HTC Zoe highlight features and GIF support.

Verizon has yet to confirm the update, but we’re expecting more details any minute, now that HTC has confirmed it’s coming soon themselves. Most likely it will start rolling out by the end of the weekend or early next week. Surprisingly Verizon is the second US carrier to deliver Android 4.4 KitKat to the HTC One, and we’ll most likely be receiving additional details for AT&T and T-Mobile users soon.
Once we get confirmation the update is actually rolling out users will want to head to settings > about phone > software updates, and tap check now to see if the new version of Android is ready and waiting for them.
