HTC One M9 Price: What to Expect

Published

on

We’ve seen a ton of different HTC One M9 rumors, leaks, and images surface over the past few months, and even more these last few days, but two questions that remain are the price and release date. With that in mind, here we take a look at what to expect about the HTC One M9, its price, and everything else.

This week has been rather telling about the phone, but we still don’t have a release date. As we approach the March 1st announcement and possible release date of the HTC One M9, rumors are starting to heat up. Everything from leaked specs and details, to concept render images based off of leaks, and even three videos arrived yesterday.

After a successful HTC One and HTC One M8 in 2014, the company is looking to built on that success with an all-new smartphone in the first half of this year. It is codenamed the HTC Hima, but will most likely be released as the HTC One M9, the New HTC One, or something else, and here’s what you need to know about it and the price when it does arrive.

The first rumors started emerging around September of last year with concepts and other light news, but over the past month the rumors have gone full throttle. We’ve seen images, concepts, leaked benchmarks, and Bloomberg reportedly talked to someone close with the matter and revealed many of the specs which match earlier reports.

In 2014, the HTC One M8 was rumored for months and leaked enough times that we knew exactly what to expect come the March 27th announcement date. There were no surprises. HTC tried to hide it this year, but things aren’t going to well and we’ve seen countless images and videos as of late. The only surprises will be a second phone, a new smartwatch, accessories, or a completely different design that differs from all the leaks we’ve seen and linked to above.

HTC One M9

For now we’re not exactly sure about the HTC One M9. Most of the leaks from last month were reportedly fakes, and an actual image of the device still has yet to be seen. Even though one leak from @evleaks could be the final design we’ll be seeing on March 1st. Since then we’ve seen a device that looks very similar to last years over and over again, and most likely the latest leaks are the real phone.

For now we know they have a few surprises up their sleeves, including the design and possibly the release date, as well as the chance that we could be seeing a second device announced the same day. The last rumor we saw suggested March 1st they’ll announce both the HTC One M9, and a new HTC One Max with a bigger 5.5 or 5.7-inch display. All of that aside, here’s the rumored specs, and then we’ll get into what you need to know about the price.

HTC One M9 Specs (Rumored)

  • 5.inch 1920 x 1080p HD Display
  • 2 GHz 8-core (4×4) Snapdragon 810 processor (64-bit)
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 32GB of internal storage and a micro-SD slot for expansion
  • 20.7 MP rear facing camera and 4 Ultrapixel front shooter (or 12 MP front)
  • Android 5.0.1 Lollipop and HTC Sense UI 7.0
  • Dual HTC Boomsound Speakers with Dolby 5.1 Audio Technology
  • 2,900 mAh battery
  • more

The information above has been rumored time and time again, seen in benchmarks, and has all but been confirmed. March 1st we’ll know if they were all accurate. So what about the price?

HTC One M9 Price

What we don’t yet know officially is the HTC One M9 release date, and the price. However, most devices have a similar price point in order to be competitive, and if HTC follows last years rollout we could see a March 1st announcement AND release date, but will have to wait and see.

Unlike other devices with multiple storage options, we’re hearing the HTC One M9 will only come in a 32GB storage configuration, as well as offer a micro-SD slot for expansion. This means there will only be one option from carriers, and one price you’ll need to know about.

The HTC One M8 launched for $599-$699 outright for those who didn’t want a contract last year, and we’re expecting the exact same pricing in 2015. Verizon offered it for the lowest price off contract, but most buyers opted to get it for $199 with a 2-year contract. Most likely that’s the exact same route HTC and carriers will take with the new HTC One M9. Verizon even has the HTC One M8 right now for only $499. That’s $100 less than the launch price, as a new replacement and successor is only days away.

Even places like Best Buy are offering the current model at a discount on contract, ranging from $49 to $99 and a 2-year service agreement. T-Mobile doesn’t have contracts, and are asking $669 for the HTC One M8 in monthly payments.

Users and prospective buyers can expect the all-new HTC One M9 to cost $599-$649 outright, be $199 with a new 2-year contract from carriers in the United States, and probably be available from Uncarrier plans, AT&T Next, Verizon Edge and other payment plans for $0 down with 24 monthly payments around $27, give or take a few.

There’s no reason to expect an increase in price, especially if HTC wants to compete with the iPhone 6 and the incoming Samsung Galaxy S6.

This all said, March 1st is the official launch date, which is just days away, so we’ll know all the details about this new smartphone soon enough. Does the similar design turn you off and have you looking elsewhere, or is the new HTC One M9 on your radar for 2015? Let us know in the comment section below.
