As one of Microsoft’s partners to make the first Windows Phone 8 devices, HTC has a lineup of three phones planned for the platform later this year.
According to The Verge, HTC is planning one phone for the low-end, one mid-range phone, and a high-end smartphone, much like its One lineup for Android devices. The three phones are the “Rio,” “Accord,” and “Zenith,” respectfully.
The first phone, the Rio, is a low-end smartphone, but not for-emerging-markets low-end. The phone has a 4-inch 800×480 display much like the Nokia Lumia 900. It comes equipped with 14.4Mbps HSPA, and a 5MP camera that can shoot 720p video. The Rio will hold 512MB of RAM and a lower-end Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus processor. That means it should run most apps in the Marketplace, unlike lower-tier phones like the Lumia 610.
The next step up is the Accord. The Accord will have a 4.3-inch 720p Super LCD 2 display, which is new to Windows Phone 8. It will also have an 8MP camera that can shoot 1080p video, and 42Mbps HSPA+ so it can quickly upload the videos. The phone will also have NFC and a better, dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor.
The Zenith sounds like the flagship of the lineup. It has the same camera and cellular radios as the Accord, but holds a larger 4.7-inch Super LCD 2 display. It will use a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor, which should make it a bit faster than the Accord.
The lineup sounds very similar to HTC’s One lineup. The Zenith and Accord sound fairly similar and mostly a matter of personal preference, just like the One S and One X. These sound like the Windows Phones we hoped for when Microsoft announced the new specs yesterday. We hope Nokia has similarly interesting phones so we can have great phones with the cool Lumia-exclusive apps.
