IdeaPad P1 Windows 7 Slate Tablet Arrives Q4

Lenovo announced a new Windows 7 Tablet PC today, much to the delight of Tableteers in need of a new Windows slate with optional pen input. This Windows 7 slate joins 2 Android tablets from Lenovo and is worth a look.

The IdeaPad P1 has a 1.5GHz Intel processor, 2GB DDR2 RAM and up to 64GB SSD storage. For connectivity you can count on Bluetooth, WiFi and optional 3G. You can keep in touch with the office or family via the 2MP front facing camera. The tablet also includes a USB 2.0 port, Micro SD card reader and docking port.

This Windows 7 slate has a 10.1″ HD display with a 1280 x 800 resolution and dual touch screen technology to support pen or finger touch. Because the slate runs Windows 7 you can use the pen to turn writing into text with the Windows 7 input panel and with OneNote.

The P1 isn’t as thin and light as an iPad, but at 14.5mm thick and 1.79 pounds it is still fairly portable.

The battery life won’t last all day, but Lenovo claims you can go up to 6 hours on the included 2-cell battery. We’ll be interested to see how this holds up in the real world. Battery life is a determining factor in the success of consumer tablets and the P1 can’t compare to the iPad or most Android tablets but if it can hold up to 4 or 5 hours it could be a good fit for businesses that need Windows 7 slates.

IdeaPad P1 Tablet Pricing and Availability

The IdeaPad P1 should be available for purchase in the fourth quarter of 2011, no price has been announced.

I want a tablet that will let me write with a pen in Khan Academy – will this one do that – the htc only lets you write in the resident notepad…
