The IdeaPad Yoga 11S is a smaller version of the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Ultrabook Convertible.
The smaller Ultrabook Convertible keeps the same swivel hinge system that switches from notebook to tablet as the Yoga 13, but thanks to the smaller size it is better suited for use as a tablet.
Lenovo unveiled the IdeaPad Yoga 11S at CES 2013, highlighting the ability of this 11.6-inch notebook to turn into an 11.6-inch tablet.
The IdeaPad Yoga 11S operates in four modes to meet the needs of users on the go. The main mode is as a notebook, with a full keyboard, but that’s not all. The IdeaPad Yoga 11S also switches to a tablet, folding the screen all the way back around the device. Tablet mode leaves the keys exposed, but they are turned off in tablet mode. The Yoga 11S also works in Tent mode, to watch movies or use touch apps and stand mode to put the screen in front of the keyboard.
The 11.6-inch display features a 1366 x 768 resolution display, smaller than many competitors like the ThinkPad Helix and the Dell XPS 12 Ultrabook Convertible, but this lower resolution screen helps keep the cost of the Yoga 11S below $800.
The small touch screen supports 10-finger multi-touch, pairing up with Windows 8 Pro Windows 8 delivers a new touch friendly user interface so it’s easier to control the tablet with touch. In addition to Windows 8 gesture support, the Yoga 11S supports Motion Control, a way flick through photos and to rewind and fast forward music and videos. The video below shows motion control on the Yoga 11S,
The IdeaPad Yoga 11S runs up to an Intel Core i5 processor, up to 8GB of RAM and up to a 256GB SSD. The small notebook features a USB 2.0 port, a USB 3.0 port as well as an SD card reader, headphone/mic combo port and HDMI output. Lenovo claims the Yoga 11S is capable of lasting 6 hours on a single charge.
Lenovo calls this the first, mini Ultrabook, though it isn’t the smallest Ultrabook or Ultrabook Convertible on the market. The Yoga 1S weighs 3.08 pounds and is 17.2mm thick, about as thick as an iPad and a keyboard case, but the Yoga 11S is about a pound heavier than this combo.
The IdeaPad Yoga 11S will retail for $799 when it arrives in June 2013.
