Intel WiFi Drivers Give You a Virtual Router

Published

on

If you’ve got the right hardware new Intel WiFi drivers (version 13.0.0.107) allow you to set up your computer as a virtual router. If this sounds similar to the story about Connectify we posted about a short time ago, it is. The difference here is you don’t need Connectify or anything else to turn your device into a hotspot. According to Long Zheng at istartedsomething the the 5300 chipset supports this but the  the 3945 chipset does not. If you’ve got the hardware and the new drivers you’ll see a Microsoft Virtual WiFi MiniPort show up in your wireless connections if you follow the steps that Long Zheng outlines in his post.
