Intel Working on Reader for the Blind
This looks like a winner on many levels for those who are visually impaired. Intel is working on a multi-function reader that, among other features, allows you to take pictures of text and have them read back to you, or enlarged for easier reading. The tiny device looks like it could assist with many different levels of visual impairment. As Carly Z on Gear Diary points out, this could be a nice aide for the visually impaired, unless it runs up against some of the copyright issues that Amazon did with its text to speech feature on the Kindle. The device will cost $1499 and the capture station is an additional $399.
