The developer behind the upcoming iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak has announced that the jailbreak should work on most of Apple’s devices.
Only a short time ago, pod2g, wasn’t sure if the upcoming untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak would work for iPhone 3GS users. However, it appears that he is now very confident that the jailbreak will work on the aging smartphone, even if he hasn’t tested it yet.
pod2g has updated his blog with a list of devices that the iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak will support and devices that the untethered jailbreak should support. The only device that the jailbreak won’t work on is the Apple TV 3.
Here is the full breakdown:
Here is the list of devices that are known to work for sure :
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 4S
- iPad 1
- iPad 2 Wifi
- iPad 3 Wifi
- iPad 3 CDMA
- iPod 3G
- iPod 4GHere is the list of devices that won’t be supported :
- AppleTV 3Remains to test (but that should work) :
- iPhone 3Gs
- iPad 2 GSM
- iPad 2 CDMA
- iPad 2 Wifi, R2
- iPad 3 Global
- AppleTV 2
So it appears that iPhone 3GS owners can breathe a little easier knowing that the untethered jailbreak will work on their device. Of course, there is a tethered jailbreak out for the iPhone 3GS and several other Apple devices so those that don’t mind jailbreaking every time the phone is powered off can go that route right now.
Right now, there is no specific release date for the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak and judging by the amount of testing pod2g has left to do, it could be a bit before we see it released.
Still, it’s possible that pod2g may be gearing up to release the hack on May 25th to coincide with the Hack in the Box conference, which takes place on May 24th and 25th in Amsterdam.
pod2g will be there to talk on May 25th about the iPhone 4S jailbreak process for Corona and Absinthe Jailbreak tools. He is joined by members of the Dream Team of hackers including Joshua Hill, Nikias Bassen and David Wang.
