Apple has begun pushing the iOS 6.1 Beta 3 software to developers today, a 105MB update to the iOS 6.1 software that Apple will be releasing to iPhone and iPad owners in the weeks ahead. Those with a device that is participating in the development program can find the update through the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch Settings under the option Software Updates. iOS 6.1 Beta 3 follows iOS 6.1 Beta 2 which Apple released to developers in early November, specifically on November 12th.

The iOS 6.1 update will, among other things, bring a more prominent ‘Report a Bug’ feature to Apple Maps.

Those who are able to install the update are still digging for changes though from previous Beta versions, we already know a few. iOS 6.1 will be adding a new Siri feature that allows users to purchase movie tickets through Fandagno, a more prominent place for the “Report a Problem” function in Apple Maps, and cosmetic changes to the lock screen’s music controls.

We imagine that Apple might include some more features and likely, bug fixes as well.

While the arrival of iOS 6.1 Beta 3 is great news for those who are in the developer program, it’s also great news for those who aren’t as it means that Apple has gotten closer to releasing the final version of iOS 6.1, the version that will be hitting the public.

Exactly when is not yet known but if we follow the release pattern for iOS 5, we can make some predictions in regards to the upcoming iOS 6.1 release date for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners.

iOS 6.1 Release Date Predictions

iOS 5 was released in October alongside the iPhone 4S. Then, in January, Apple released iOS 5.1 Beta 3 to developers. Specifically, the company pushed the update on January 9th. Apple then released the final Gold Master version of iOS 5.1 to the public on March 7th, just a little under two months after the Beta 3 update arrived.

iOS 6 was released in September alongside the iPhone 5, Apple’s latest version of the iPhone. The iOS 6.1 Beta 3 arrived today, December 3rd, more than a month ahead of the iOS 5.1 Beta 3. Given the September released date of iOS 6, that seems to point to an iOS 6.1 release date in 2013.

As for a specific release date, if Apple holds to its previous schedule, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners should expect the software update to roll out at some point in early February and maybe even as early as late January.
