The iPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak is a success, but like many iOS jailbreak announcements this is not something that the average user can install and it is highly unlikely we will see an iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak release ahead of an iOS 7 release from Apple as it would give the company time to fix holes.
Just ahead of Apple’s iPhone and iOS 7 event on Tuesday, noted Apple iOS hacker @winocm shared screenshots showing an iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak for the iPhone 5.
While an iOS 6 jailbreak landed earlier this year, the iOS 6.1.4 update broke the ability to jailbreak and the Evad3rs did not update the Evasi0n iOS 6 jailbreak tool to support iOS 6.1.4.
iOS 6.1.4 Jailbreak Success
On September 7th, Winocm tweeted a screenshot of Cydia running on an iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.4 installed with a heart and a screenshot of an iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak on the Verizon iPhone 5.
He soon retweeted, Nevin K, who posted the message, “iPhone 5,2=success!” alongside a photo of an iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak on a Verizon iPhone 5.

This progress on the iPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak is good news for users that upgraded to an iPhone after Apple released iOS 6.1.4 or who accidentally upgraded to iOS 6.1.4.
As of right now there is no iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak tool like Evasi0n, and it’s not clear if one will come soon. According to planetbeing, one of the Evad3rs members this is a legit iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak, but he cautions jailbreak users who are excited that this is, “meant to show off progress than anything else.”
In an explanation on reddit planetbeing shares some insight and cautions users not to update to iOS 6.1.4 yet.
What do you mean? First, it’s not “these developers”, it’s winocm. Second, I’m not saying that because this code release is not useful (he’d be extremely foolish to release anything useful!) that ‘he r #fakr’ as it were.
He does indeed have a 6.1.4 jailbreak; he’s shown me some components of it. I’m not going to say much more publicly based on what he’s shown me since he should be the one making announcements on it. However, please don’t update or tell other people to update their device until the jailbreak is actually released (that goes for all jailbreaks, in fact).
iOS 7 Jailbreak Status
This is more good news from the jailbreak scene, as Apple readies the iOS 7 release for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. While there is still interest in an iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak, there is also attention on an iOS 7 jailbreak and an iPhone 5S jailbreak, both of which could take some time.
According to planetbeing, any iOS 7 jailbreak will also come to iOS 6.1.4 and iOS 6.1.3 users.
I said in Chengdu that when an iOS 7 jailbreak is released, we will backport it to support iOS 6.1.3 and 6.1.4. My hosts asked me to clarify that point since apparently people on those firmware versions are panicking that staying on those versions means they can never jailbreak. That’s all.
Even though the iOS 7 beta provided users with access to an early version of iOS 7, the iOS 7 jailbreak release date could be a long way off. It wasn’t until February when the iOS 6 and iPhone 5 jailbreak arrived, and even then the team working on it waited for the iOS 6.1 release. With that in mind the iOS 7.1 release is probably a more important milestone for users hoping for an iOS 7 jailbreak or an iPhone 5S jailbreak.
I can't wait for iOS 7.1. RT if you know damn straight why.

It’s a good idea to keep this long wait in mind if you rely on jailbreak tweaks to maintain a usable iPhone as there will not likely be an iOS 7 jailbreak at launch.
