iOS 8.3 Jailbreak Release Could Be Delayed Until iOS 8.4

Now that iOS 8.3 is out, many iPhone and iPad users are looking forward to an iOS 8.3 jailbreak, but it’s possible that jailbreak developers may wait until iOS 8.4 is released, as an iOS 8.4 jailbreak has already been achieved.

Well-known jailbreak developer Stefan Esser (also known as i0n1c) recently uploaded a video to YouTube that shows off a working jailbreak that appears to be running on iOS 8.4 beta 1. Esser says that this is merely just a “proof of concept” and like his past jailbreak teases, he most likely won’t release it anytime soon, but it gives a chance for other devs to swoop in and release it.

In the video, which is embedded below, Esser shows off his iOS 8.4 jailbreak and plays around with the Apple Watch app and then the new Music app that will be included with the upcoming update. He clearly shows that Cydia is running on iOS 8.4, which is a clear sign that this is pretty legit.

While this is only a tease of sorts, it does prove that iOS 8.4 is jailbreakable, and as an extension, iOS 8.3 should be jailbreakable as well. The only question is whether or not a jailbreak will release for iOS 8.3 or iOS 8.4.

Apple released iOS 8.3 earlier this month, which comes packing with a handful of bug fixes, as well as new emoji, wireless CarPlay support, and iCloud Photo Library officially out of beta. Many hope that an iOS 8.3 jailbreak releases, but developers may be waiting until iOS 8.4, simply because it’s most likely only a couple months out.

iOS 8.1.3, which was released earlier this year, officially patched up the TaiG iOS 8 jailbreak and those patches carry over to iOS 8.3. A support page on Apple’s website lists the TaiG Jailbreak Team as the source for a security vulnerability that Apple patched up in iOS 8.1.3, which means that iOS 8.1.3 is unjailbreakable, and as an extension, iOS 8.3 is unjailbreakable as well.

The reason why developers may stay away from iOS 8.3 and shoot for iOS 8.4 instead is because once they release a jailbreak for iOS 8.3, Apple will go ahead and patch up the exploits in iOS 8.4, rendering an iOS 8.3 jailbreak useless after only a couple of months being out in the public.

If jailbreak developers wait until iOS 8.4 is released, an iOS 8.4 jailbreak would last longer since iOS 8.4 will most likely be the last big update that iOS 8 receives up until the launch of iOS 9, which will most likely hit later this year in September.

With that said, an iOS 8.4 jailbreak would last longer than an iOS 8.3 jailbreak would, giving jailbreak developers all the more reason to wait until iOS 8.4. Of course, this is just personal opinion, but as a jailbreak enthusiast myself who follows along closely with the jailbreaking scene, I can say that it would make much better sense for the TaiG dev team (or whoever develops a jailbreak) to wait until iOS 8.4 is released.

Plus, it looks like Apple patched up iOS 8.3 good. Jailbreak developer MuscleNerd tweeted that Apple’s 39 security bugs that were fixed in iOS 8.3 rivals the update from iOS 7.x to iOS 8 last year, making it one of the biggest updates as far as security fixes are concerned. Some of those fixes were exploits that were used by the TaiG jailbreak team, so this is certainly a big blow for the jailbreaking community.

However, jailbreak devs always find a way in, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see an iOS 8.4 jailbreak shortly after the update releases.
