iOS 8.4 Release Date & Time: What You Need to Know
The iOS 8.4 release date is down to two very specific days and we think we have a pretty good read on the iOS 8.4 release time. With just hours to go before Apple’s next big iOS 8 release, we want to rundown everything iPhone and iPad users need to know about the iOS 8.4 update’s arrival.
In April, Apple confirmed an iOS 8.4 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The update is heavily focused on music as it delivers a brand new Music application alongside the company’s new Apple Music platform that will compete for customers with Pandora, Spotify and others.
Earlier this month, at WWDC 2015, Apple talked up its new Apple Music service and confirmed a specific release date for music lovers. It also affirmed plans to release an iOS 8.4 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. an update that could very well be the last iOS 8 update before Apple pushes out iOS 9. The iOS 9 release date is confirmed for the fall.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve taken an extensive look at iOS 8.4, its release date and its release time and today we want to take one last look at everything you, as iOS 8 owners, need to know about the iOS 8.4 release date and the iOS 8.4 release time.
Our goal is to help you get as prepared as possible for the update’s arrival and with just a few hours to go before release, now is a great time to get caught up. Here are the most important things to know about the update’s release date and release time.
iOS 8.4 Release Date
Apple hasn’t confirmed the iOS 8.4 release date but thanks to the confirmed June 30 Apple Music release date, we know that it has to come on one of two days.
iOS 8.4 will deliver Apple Music inside the new revamped Music application which means that the iOS 8.4 release date has to be Monday or Tuesday, June 30th. Apple has a tendency to release new iOS updates on Monday morning though it’s possible that we’ll see the software push the same day that Apple Music goes live.
Again, Apple hasn’t confirmed either day but with Apple promoting Apple Music ahead of Tuesday’s release date, it’s clear that all systems are go. Keep an eye out for the update starting Monday.
Prepare Now
You still have some time before the iOS 8.4 update is released for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch which means that you still have time to prepare for the update’s arrival.
We recently put together a list of steps that will help you prepare for the iOS 8.4 release date on Monday or Tuesday. You don’t need to follow every single step but some of these will help minimize the risk for iOS 8.4 problems. Take a look at them, especially if this your first time installing an iOS update.
Who is Getting iOS 8.4?
As a reminder, if you are using a device that’s capable of running iOS 8, you will gain access to the iOS 8.4 update and its features. If you don’t know if your phone is able to run iOS 8, here’s a list of the devices getting iOS 8.4 next week:
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 5c
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 4s
- iPod touch fifth-gen
- iPad Air 2
- iPad Air
- iPad mini 3
- iPad mini 2
- iPad mini
- iPad 4
- iPad 3
- iPad 2
All of these will share the same iOS 8.4 release date.
iOS 8.4 Jailbreak
We still don’t know if developers will release an iOS 8.4 jailbreak on the iOS 8.4 release date so you’ll want to keep an eye open once Apple makes the software available via its servers.
We recently saw the release of an untethered iOS 8.3 jailbreak and we’ve heard that an iOS 8.4 jailbreak is possible next week. Nothing is confirmed until a jailbreak is released though so you’ll need to remain patient.
Downgrade from iOS 8.4 to iOS 8.3
If you download iOS 8.4 on day one and you don’t like it, remember, you’ll be able to drop back down to iOS 8.3. You will not, however, be able to drop down to anything lower than that so be careful if you’re moving from something like iOS 8.2, iOS 8.0 or iOS 7.
iOS 8.4 Release Time
Apple hasn’t released an iOS 8.4 release time but thanks to many years of dealing with unannounced iOS release times and release dates, we have a pretty solid read on what will transpire on Monday or Tuesday of next week.
U.S.
The only time that Apple doesn’t release an iOS update between 9AM PST and 10:30AMPST is when it releases an update after an event. Every other release sticks to a specific protocol.
If you live in the United States, there are some specific times that you should be checking for iOS 8.4. The iOS 8.4 release time should pan out as follows in the U.S.:
- Eastern – 1 PM
- Central – 12 PM
- Mountain – 11 AM
- Pacific – 9 – 10AM
Other Countries
While the iOS 8.4 release time will be reasonable in the United States, iPhone and iPad users in other parts of the world probably won’t be so lucky. Here’s how the iOS 8.4 release time will probably play out in other parts of the world:
- London – 6 PM
- Moscow – 9 PM
- New Dehli – 10:30 PM
- Shanghai – 1 AM
- Tokyo – 2 AM
- Melbourne – 3 AM
- Auckland – 5 AM
Apple doesn’t announce anything beforehand so you’ll need to keep an eye out for the start of its iOS 8.4 roll out.
File Size & Installation
We don’t know the exact iOS 8.4 file size though we expect it to be larger than your average bug fix update due to the features on board. And thanks to some of the changes Apple’s made to how iOS updates install Over-the-Air, you shouldn’t need a lot of open storage space on board your phone or tablet in order to install through settings.
