iOS 8 Jailbreak Officially Stable Enough to Use

While the iOS 8 jailbreak was released last week, most of the bugs have now been worked out and those who were waiting for a stable jailbreak can now take action and install the iOS 8 jailbreak on their iPhone or iPad.

Cydia was mostly the problem, as the jailbreak app store was not fully compatible with iOS 8 on launch day. Since then, it has made progress, and up until just yesterday, users weren’t able to download paid tweaks if they hadn’t already bought them.

However, Cydia is now fully compatible with Pangu’s iOS 8 jailbreak, and the developer behind the jailbreak app store says that Cydia and the iOS 8 jailbreak is “stable enough” for use.

Much to everyone’s surprise in the jailbreak community, an iOS 8 jailbreak was released way earlier than expected, coming only after a month since iOS 8’s initial release by Apple. Plus, it also works with the latest iOS 8.1 update.

The Pangu dev team is a recent addition to the jailbreak community, first breaking into the scene with their iOS 7.1.2 jailbreak back in June shortly after the update released from Apple, and their iOS 8 jailbreak proves that they’re serious about sticking around and providing users with jailbreaks in the foreseeable future.

However, the Pangu team has already hit a road block with Apple, as the iOS 8.1.1 update (which is expected to release in the next week or two) has patched up the exploits used for the iOS 8 jailbreak, meaning that if you haven’t updated to iOS 8.1 yet, it’s best to do that now so that you’re locked in for a guaranteed jailbreak.

Why do this? Because once Apple releases iOS 8.1.1 to the public, they’ll stop signing iOS 8.1, which means you won’t be able to update to iOS 8.1 and will be forced to update to iOS 8.1.1, making your iPhone or iPad unjailbreakable.

Even if you have a Mac (and the Pangu jailbreak isn’t compatible with Macs yet), at least just update to iOS 8.1 and then wait for a Mac version of the Pangu jailbreak to release.

However, the good news is that this iOS 8 jailbreak will work with all devices that are capable of running iOS 8, including the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad mini 3, and iPad Air 2, as well as older devices like the iPhone 5s and iPad Air.

While many of the popular tweaks work with iOS 8 now, there are still many tweaks that need updated for iOS 8, including Springtomize. Plus, Cydia still needs a few fixes that will allow jailbreakers to download paid tweaks, which aren’t working just yet.

In any case, it’s odd enough that we’re seeing an iOS 8 jailbreak so soon in the iOS 8 lifecycle, considering that iOS 7 didn’t have a jailbreak until December. However, this jailbreak comes from the same team that brought us the amazing iOS 7.1 jailbreak earlier this year.

Ever since the initial announcement of iOS 8 last month, the jailbreak community was rather curious as to when an iOS 8 jailbreak would hit the public. Of course, we could’ve relied on past history as far as when to expect it, but even that’s a little shaky.

The Jailbreak community on Reddit is usually buzzing with jailbreak hype on a new version of iOS, but it has been extremely quiet until last week, which is a little odd, but maybe not too surprising considering that nobody was getting their hopes up just yet.

Many of the big names in the jailbreak community have been skeptical about an iOS 8 jailbreak, but that’s mostly because many of these big names were not actively working on one in the first place. Even the Evad3rs dev team that was responsible for the initial iOS 7 jailbreak said that jailbreaking was getting “boring” for them. This isn’t too surprising to hear, as jailbreaking certainly isn’t as exciting as it was when the iPhone first came out in 2007, and coming out with a new jailbreak tool every year can be a bit exhausting to say the least.
