iOS 8 Jailbreak Successful, but Don’t Get Too Excited Yet

Just a few days after Apple announced and unveiled iOS 8 to the world, the first beta for the new version of iOS has already been jailbroken.

Jailbreak developer and hacker i0n1c tweeted a photo of what might look like lines of gibberish to a lot of users, but it means that the iOS 8 beta has been jailbroken. Does this mean we’ll see an iOS 8 jailbreak shortly? Not a chance.

We likely won’t see an iOS 8 jailbreak until closer to the end of the year at the earliest, and that’s because jailbreak developers don’t want Apple to patch up the exploits used for the jailbreak too early. What this means is that if i0n1c were to release the jailbreak to the iOS 8 beta right now, Apple would quickly patch it up before the final version of iOS 8 even releases to the public, and that would be bad news for obvious reasons.

iOS 8 jailbreak

We should ultimately expect the same time frame as the iOS 7 jailbreak, which was released a few months after iOS 7 was publicly launched in September 2013. Because of this, you’ll be waiting a while for an official iOS 8 jailbreak to release.

It’s nothing new when a jailbreak developer posts photos or videos of a successful jailbreak attempt without releasing the exploit to the public, but it seems i0n1c (who also teased a successful iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak) isn’t very liked amongst the jailbreak community, especially on Reddit, where his constant teasing has made many upset, calling him a “troll” and claiming that he’s simply “attention seeking.”

However, i0n1c’s constant teasing of successful jailbreak attempts at least shows the world that a jailbreak is possible for a new version of iOS, and confirms that no matter how often Apple locks up its software to prevent this sort of thing, there’s always a way around it somehow.

iOS 8 comes with a very similar user interface that practically remains unchanged from iOS 7, but it includes some very cool features that we’ve seen before in other apps, but are now coming to iOS natively.

First off, iOS 8 now comes with interactive notifications, which allow users to manage notifications and respond to them right from the Notification Center. So if you get a text message you can tap on it to reply to it right there without having to open up the Messages app. These work a lot like Android’s notifications, and that’s certainly not a bad thing. These interactive notifications also work on the lock screen, and the Facebook integration even allows you to “Like” or comment on a Facebook post directed at you.

In the Messages app, you can now finally remove certain contacts from group conversations and also give a custom name to group chats as well. Furthermore, you can enable Do Not Disturb for just certain conversations, so that you’ll still receive text messages from a friend, but you can quickly mute any incoming notifications from your mom.

Also in Messages, you can share your location with whomever you’re chatting with, as well as record a quick audio or video message and send it to them immediately. We’ve seen these features in other apps as well, including Snapchat and WhatsApp, but they’re now integrated into iOS, which is really cool.

Apple says that iOS 8 will arrive at some point in the fall, with a specific release date still under wraps, but multiple beta versions will most likely release over the summer for developers to try out. As for an iOS 8 jailbreak, we should expect a couple of months after iOS 8’s official release, but hopefully it will be much sooner.

I feel that i0n1c is not a troll, more of a revolutionist, alike the other dev teams jailbreaking 7.1 and beta 1. He simply can’t release his jailbreaks because apple would quickly patch the exploits in ios versions to come, and we are all awaiting iOS 8 and that jailbreak. But at least we aren’t waiting in the dark unknowing if it’s even possible. i0n1c shed light onto his jailbreak, reassuring us all that ITS POSSIBLE! But he just. can’t. release it. YET! So I appluad him, screw the redditors and what they say, impatience leads to nowhere. I myself am jittery to jailbreak my recently purchased 5s that came on 7.1.1, but I understand the situation.
