iPad Mini 2 With Retina Display Available at Best Buy Today

Apple surprised us with an iPad mini 2 release last night and many Apple Stores still do not offer the iPad mini in stock in the U.S., but some Best Buy locations do have select models in stores and others will ship to a store within 3-5 days, which may beat Apple’s estimates.

Best Buy is not currently showing the iPad mini 2 with LTE as an in stock item that shoppers can order to a store or to check for stock, but the WiFi only models are available online to reserve or order for an in store pickup. Apple Stores will only sell the iPad mini 2 in stores with a personal pickup for now.

While Apple is selling the lower capacity iPad mini 2 with 1-3 day shipping, the higher capacity models are not shipping as fast as Best Buy’s 3-5 day ship to store promise. Currently users cannot add any of the ship to store models to their cart.

Shoppers can go to Best Buy to reserve one of these iPad mini 2 models for pickup or for an in store delivery. While checking for an iPad mini 2 in stock at a local store we didn’t have much luck, but some users report that Best Buy has some models in stock and other users are reporting that Best Buy will receive stock later today.

Just left Best Buy and they said the iPad mini with retina should be in today, but they didn’t know when.

The iPad mini 2 with Retina display stock is reportedly very low, but Apple still shows a 1-3 day ship time for the 16GB and 32GB WiFi only models and 5-10 days for the higher capacity and LTE models.

We’ve reached out to carriers to find out when they will sell the iPad mini 2 with Retina but for now there is no new information.

We expect Apple Stores in the U.S. will start to show in store pickup options more frequently in the next several days as stock arrives at stores. From what we can tell many Best Buy locations are still waiting for deliveries with the iPad mini 2 to arrive.

The iPad mini 2 went on sale last night around midnight Pacific. The new iPad mini 2 comes with a 7.9-inch Retina Display with a 2,048 by 1,536 resolution and a new Apple A7 processor. The iPad mini with Retina Display also includes an M7 co processor which will track movement and pass the data on to apps. The iPad mini 2 shares the design of the first iPad mini and starts at $399 for the 16GB WiFi only model.
