iPad Mini 2 Rumored for Fall; “Almost Bezel-Free” Retina for 2014

A new report claims the iPad mini 2 will come before the holidays, but backs up earlier reports that Apple will not release an iPad mini 2 with a Retina Display until 2014.

The new information details an iPad mini Retina Display with an “almost bezel-free,” design or 2014, and a slightly updated iPad mini 2 release in time for the holiday shopping season without a Retina Display.

Earlier this month we shared reports that the iPad mini with Retina Display would not arrive in 2013 and in May reports of multiple iPad mini 2 updates with a Retina Display in 2013 and in early 2014.

This morning a DigiTimes report claims Apple is preparing an iPad mini 2 release for this fall which will bring a thinner, lighter iPad mini with improved specs. If true, this could be the cheaper iPad mini which we’ve heard multiple analysts predict. It’s possible this new iPad mini 2 could push the original device price down to $250.

New claims point to a cheaper iPad mini 2 and a iPad mini Retina coming later.

The iPad mini 2 is rumored for later this year.

According to this report, Apple is holding an iPad mini with Retina Display for early 2014. The device would reportedly use the same 2048 x 1536 resolution as the iPad 4 and the rumored iPad 5. DigiTimes claims for the iPad mini with Retina Display,

“Apple is also said to be revising the design of the chassis to give the next-generation iPad mini an almost bezel-free look”

Apple’s iPad design cycle isn’t as tight as the iPhone every-other-year refresh, but after two years with the same design, Apple is reportedly switching to an iPad 5 that looks like the iPad mini. After two iPad mini releases it would make sense that Apple wants to deliver a new look.

Advances in screen technology are trimming down the area needed for bezels, which house edges of the screen and other components, and are not just there for something to grip. With the iPad mini Apple unveiled a new iOS 7 feature that can detect accidental touches from holding the iPad and touches meant to control the iPad mini which cut the bezel size dramatically.

The report re-affirms claims that the iPad 5 will deliver a thinner and lighter tablet. Previous iPad 5 rumors suggest Apple is nearing production of the iPad 5 for an early fall release with a design that looks very similar to the current iPad mini design.

Even though iPad mini 2 rumors cannot agree on a Retina Display, it appears that Apple is at the very least planning an iPad mini 2 release that will put the small tablet on store shelves in time for the holiday shopping season.

I have been a faithful Apple user and a value added reseller since the 80’s. As I watch apple sink lower and lower I wonder if it may be time to make a change. If the competition can offer a better product because Apple is more focused on maximizing profit then they have become what they once hated most. IBM

If Apple can’t put out an iPad mini that matches or beats any of the other products that competes with it, due to Apples desire to milk the market of its money while increasing profits selling by inferior technology, then it’s time to do the following. Leave Apple for the same reason I left IBM.

So my hope is that this article is just a rumor for Apple to sell out an over priced, low tech product. If they try to sell the same BS for a second time then Nexus 7 2 here I come.

So, it’s going to be interesting to see what direction Apple is going to take? It’s stock values are dropping, and Android is kicking its butt in mobile phone sales. Is Apple going to go the way of the dinosaur, I mean IBM?
