Yesterday, Apple confirmed all of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C leaks that we had seen in the weeks leading up to their announcement. We saw the gold iPhone 5S and the brilliant colors of the iPhone 5C backs. The iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 appear destined for the same fate as a new photo leak once again shows off the two back shells next to each other, back shells that we’ve seen time and time again.
For weeks ahead of the iPhone launch, we saw the back shells for the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C leak out on camera, thanks in part to known Apple leakster, Sonny Dickson. Those leaks were confirmed at yesterday’s event wherein Apple showed off a gold iPhone 5S and a colored iPhone 5C that looked exactly like they had in the photo leaks.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, Apple’s new iPads are receiving the same treatment ahead of launch. Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen numerous leaks show off the alleged back shells of both the iPad 5 and iPad 2 and today, Sonny Dickson is back with yet another look at how the iPad mini 2 will match up with the iPad 5.
Once again, we see an iPad mini 2 design that appears virtually unchanged from the iPad mini. This is expected as the biggest change to the iPad mini 2 is expected to be a 7.9-inch Retina Display, something that was not found on the iPad mini. The iPad 5 on the other hand is expected to feature a new design that mirrors the iPad mini’s.
Rumors, and leaks, suggest a similar anodized aluminum shell in line with the smaller iPad. It’s something that we see here and it’s something that we have seen before. And given the number of the leaks and given how accurate Dickson’s other leaks were, it’s likely that we’re looking directly at the new iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 ahead of launch.
Apple’s new iPads did not debut on September 10th but they will likely make an appearance at an event next month ahead of the holiday shopping season. No date has been mentioned but we fully expect Apple to take the stage at some point in October to announce both the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2. And quite possibly some other products as well.
The company still needs to release OS X Mavericks and its new Mac Pro, and there are rumors that suggest that it could be bringing new iMacs and MacBook Pros to shelves for the holidays.
