After almost a week of pre-orders the in store iPad Air 2 release date is finally here, offering widespread availability at Apple Stores and coming soon to Best Buy and other retailers. Right alongside the thinner and faster iPad Air 2 is the iPad mini 3 release in the same stores, offering the new 7.9-inch tablet as well.
The in store iPad Air 2 release date arrives even as some shoppers wait for Apple to ship and deliver their new tablet. iPad Air 2 pre-orders kicked off online and in stores last week, at $499 and up for the iPad Air 2.
Although not as exciting to current iPad mini owners, this is also the iPad mini 3 release date in Apple Stores and other retailers. The new iPad mini 3 starts at $399.
News of the in store iPad mini 3 & iPad Air 2 release date comes after an atypical launch where Apple only confirmed pre-orders and left the in store release dates as coming soon.
This afternoon Apple Stores kicked off the iPad Air 2 release date with the option to reserve an iPad Air 2 for pickup. Shoppers can use the Apple Store App to find an iPad Air 2 in stock at a local Apple Store. Best Buy also offers the iPad Air 2 in stores for pickup on October 24th.
Not all locations are ready for the in store iPad Air 2 release date so be sure to check with Best Buy or Apple before you go to a store. You can reserve an iPad Air 2 at either location for no extra charge as long as one is in stock.
The iPad Air 2 WiFi + Cellular is not available in stores yet. Traditionally the LTE iPad release trails behind the WiFi only models, though the shipping dates for the iPad Air 2 with LTE are two to four days, like the iPad Air 2 WiFi when ordered through Apple.com.
The in store iPad mini 3 release date also arrived today at Apple Stores and Best Buy. Shoppers should check using the web or Apple Store or Best Buy apps as not every location offers the iPad mini 3 in stock yet. You can reserve the iPad mini 3 for pickup at Best Buy starting October 24th. It appears easier to find the iPad Air 2 in stock.
The iPad mini 3 with LTE is also not available in stores yet, though there is a one to 3 day shipping time online so it’s only a matter of days before shoppers can expect to walk in and buy an iPad mini 3 WiFi + Cellular at an Apple Store.
At this point it is not clear if the iPad Air 2 release date arrived for all stores like Walmart and Target or if carriers like Verizon, AT&T and others will offer the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini in stores today. Walmart offers the iPad Air 2 for $489 and up and the iPad mini 3 for $389. Best Buy and Walmart both offer trade-in deals to help ease the price of upgrading from an older iPad 2.
The iPad Air 2 features a thinner new design, 16GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options and an upgraded processor that delivers better performance than the iPad Air that is now $399. Apple finally offers the iPad Air 2 in gold, to match the iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus. The iPad Air 2 also includes Touch ID and support for Apple Pay payments.
Apple did not pack in as many upgrades for the iPad mini 3. The main upgrades are a cheaper 64GB storage option, Touch ID with Apple Pay and a gold color option.
