iPad Mini Production Reportedly Underway

A new report claims that production of the iPad Mini has begun ahead of its eventual arrival on shelves, rumored to be sometime in November following an announcement later this month.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that component suppliers in Asia have begun production of Apple’s rumored iPad Mini which is said to sport a screen size of 7.85-inches.

It also appears that the new iPad Mini will have a lower screen resolution than the Retina Display that’s found on the larger, 9.7-inch third-generation that Apple released earlier this year.

The iPad Mini has reportedly entered full-on production.

This is the second time this week that the iPad Mini has been rumored to be in production with another report claiming that production of the new device had begun in Brazil. The new report doesn’t corroborate this.

The news comes shortly after a new rumor suggested that Apple would be sending out event invites on October 10th for an event that would presumably be the launch pad for the iPad Mini. If Apple were to follow its usual procedure, then it would likely host an event on October 17th and release the iPad Mini sometime in early November, possibly November 3rd.

This would position it perfectly for a release during the holiday shopping season.

The iPad Mini is rumored to be a cheaper, smaller version of the iPad featuring a 7.85-inch display and a design that mirrors the thinner bezels found on the iPod touch. Current mockups place the iPad Mini as having a thickness of 7.69 mm compared to the 9.91 mm thickness of the iPad 3.

Apple is rumored to have also included cellular data connectivity, at least one camera, and a 16GB model at the very least. The device is said to be about two-thirds the size of the normal iPad.

Pricing is not yet known though we imagine it will definitely be cheaper than the $499 price tag found on the larger iPad.
