iPhone 4S Jailbreak Gone Bad: Bad Battery Life and Stability Issues

Published

on

When the iPhone 4S jailbreak was released ast month I quickly jailbroke my iPhone.

I’ve been looking forward to the iPhone 4S jailbreak since I bought the phone, but I was cautious about which jailbreak apps I installed, holding myself to a few of the best iPhone 4S jailbreak apps. In all I had about 5 jailbreak apps installed on my iPhone this past week.

For a few days I enjoyed the extra features IntelliscreenX gave me and the occasionally working GVExtension, but yesterday things went bad.

We’ve talked about stability issues on jailbroken devices, but this is the first time I’ve experienced them myself. I know some of you are already jumping to the comments to tell me I’m making this up and that I’m doing something wrong, but this is exactly why I don’t recommend jailbreaking to the average user who just wants a bug free iPhone experience.

iPhone 4S Jailbreak crashHere’s how my jailbroken iPhone went bad.

As you can see, this isn’t a simple restart, but real issues that impact my iPhone’s usability.

  • No Alarms – My phone would vibrate, but no audible alarms would sound, which means I overslept yesterday.
  • Bad iPhone 4S Battery Life – While I could normally last a day, I blew through 57% by noon. Most of the time my phone was off on my desk.
  • iPhone Wouldn’t Sleep – When I set the iPhone down the screen wouldn’t turn off.
  • Sleeping on the Job – Oddly, when I was using the iPhone the screen would go to sleep, in the middle of tapping on apps.
  • Camera Crash – The Camera app froze and crashed multiple times, causing me to miss a few snapshots.
  • Crash Happy – My iPhone 4S crashed twice, into safe mode. I didn’t lose data, but phone crashes are annoying and waste time.

I’ve un-installed most of my jailbreak apps, and i will be installing them one at a time over the next week to see which one was causing the issue. I’m not ready to give up on jailbreaking, but if battery life continues to be an issue I’ll be back to stock by the end of the month.

How is your iPhone 4S jailbreak experience?

my jailbreak is perfect. springboard only crashes when a tweak or app doesn’t support ios5. there is a decrease in battery life, yet it all depends. iPhone 4s users should not use winterboard, for example, due to stability issues. i personally use dreamboard, yet there is always the threat of it eating too much ram…

I just tried ineedjailbreak.com with a bad result.  I first tried the iphone 4s and after paying for the product a screen came up saying that the program will not work on the iphone 4s if it had OS 5.1. (It did say if you had previously jailbroken the device there was a fix through downgade) Well I am thinking who would not have 5.1? I am sure there are always reasons to  decline updates, but most of us simply update.  So.. I have many devices therefore I decided to try my iphone 4.  Well the program would not even download to my desktop.  It appears they have known  issues with Vista and Windows 7.  No worries as tech support says they have had success by installing the program on a different computer with a different operating system.  No problem.  I went to my old laptop running XP Pro and the software made it all the way to the desktop.  Then I moved it to my original PC and followed the installion process.  After installation Safari would not open and Cydia was greyed out. Hurray for tech support. They have a fix just for this issue. Now you have to redo the entire process with a different version. You guessed it! It did not fix the problem.   So then I moved on to my ipad 1 where the process is virtually the same.  No surprise the non functional result was the same.  This group has balls  as the next screen suggests that I upgrade to one on one support for $59.  This way I guess the same people that just wasted 2 hours of my Sunday are now going to roam around my computer remotely trying to see if they can figure out this mess.  No thank you.  I sent several emails and asked them to call me or email me or refund my money.  Well if anyone thinks they replied to me then perhaps you should buy this program.:)  Does anyone have a process that works well with ios 5.1?

I had a problem with a spell check that I deleted an haven’t had any problems since. We all have to realize that its a jail break expect some flaws and some problems. Jailbreak is the best thing that happened to the IPhone it would not be apple leading product if it were not for jailbreak. I wouldn’t own one if it were not for jailbreak because there are several other carriers with much cheeper phones an rates if I couldnt personalize my phone like I can with jailbreak apple and at&t could kiss my ass an that’s from the heart

    Duh.

“I installed a bunch of things all in a very short timespan without testing for stability and compatibility in-between and now I have instability issues! Damn you, [Microsoft/Windows/Linux/Google/Samsung/Android Root/Iphone Jailbreak], damn you to hell!”

For you instability issues, make sure the apps, tweaks, themes are ios5 compatible and even so not all are fully supported I’ve seen. For your battery life try reducing screen brightness, turn email push notification to manual and go through your settings and remove some unnecessary RSS feeds from push notification. IntelliscreenX should be the one you’re using the others ARE NOT ios 5 compatible and it is the most likely reason for such a draw on power. Solution? If you don’t tweet turn twitter off, for new if you have it running RSS if you’re not a news person on the go remove it also and Facebook, if you dont need constant update you know it, manual push or remove it. Those should help. And I have to say I have themed my i4s and tweaked it and a lot of stuff done to it and I’m quite surprised that I can make it to 3:00 am the next morning @20% battery life left.

To save battery turn off your Bluetooth and 3G when you’re not using it. They eat up a lot of power.

After jailbreaking my iphone 4s Safari crashes at start up. Do I need to delete one of my cracked tweeks from Cydia to correct this? I also loaded up tweeks without checking for stability and now Safari crashes, what a pain…

people need to understand exactly what is involved here, you are going to experience some degree of difficulty with jailbreaking your device. No one said it was perfect, but it does enhance the Iphone no matter how you look at it.

I recommend that you should do your research before jailbreaken and that way you will know how to correct any errors that appear on your iphone. People, know your product to avoid any complications.

I installed the five icon dock and it took most of my apps out of the folders that I had meticulously organize. Since I had so many apps, there wasn’t enough room for them all in the limited number of pages in the iPhone home screen. So after uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of other jailbreak apps that are just the folders and themes, I was able to get all of my apps back. But I realized it was a good time for me to delete whole bunch of apps that I never used in the first place

i only downloaded 2 apps and my phone crashed and its currently still crashed. its stuck on the apple screen when you turn it on. does that mean its on safe mode?

    • Dnmeboy

      02/12/2012 at 9:35 am

The phone will alert you when you are in safe mode and give you the option to restart your springboard. You will also see the words “safe mode” on your status bar, you can tap the status bar and you will be able to exit safe mode when the option pops up.. The phone will still function in safe mode however any tweaks will not. If your phone is stuck at the apple logo you may need to restore it via itunes. If you have not already tried you can press and hold the sleep and home button at the same time until the phone resets and see if it will boot.

I agree that people who simply want a device that works when they want it to without bugs should steer clear of jailbreaking. Some people just don’t want the hassle of troubleshooting problems that occur and others just don’t know how to do that sort of thing. I have also learned that you must research tweaks a little before installing them. You need to be sure they are compatible with any existing tweaks you have or plan to download. I have only experienced problems on my jailbroken devices when I am running to many tweaks. To figure out what is causing the problems (mostly safe mode crashes) I just disable or remove them until the problem goes away and usually I can figure out pretty easily which tweak is the culprit. Jailbreaking is not this “bad” thing like some of the posts here make it seem.

You should have some technical knowledge before attempting to modify the operating system on anything. Chances are if you can not instal an operating system on a computer or trouble shoot one then you should not be modifying your phone or tablet.

Jailbreaking is stupid and wastes the main purpose for buying an ipod

    • Dnmeboy

      03/14/2012 at 4:34 am

Really? And what exactly is the main purpose of buying an iPod? Music? Games? And how exactly does jail breaking effect any of it? Oh yeah….it doesn’t. You probably don’t even know what it means to jailbreak a phone any way. It’s means the freedom to do what you want with the device you paid so much money for. When I bought my pc it wasn’t locked down and no one told me what I could and couldn’t do with it. I like my iDevices the same way.

    05/10/2012 at 12:25 am

My iPhone 4S was Absinthe jailbroken but became unstable so I did a stock restore to 5.1. iPhone 4S worked for a day after restore and it keeps on rebooting. I tried several times to restore in DFU Mode and Restore Mode. But as soon as iTunes shows installing my iPhone 4S starting rebooting and don’t get past the Apple logo. It keeps on rebooting after the Apple logo is shown. Now I cannot do anything with this device since I can no longer restore it.

    Any solution to this problem?

    I found this on Safari:

Sometimes when jailbreaking an iPhone or after installing a jailbreak app, your iPhone will get stuck on reboot, or will hang on the Apple logo. This problem happened to me before and it was kind of a nightmare. In order to get your iPhone back on track, you will have to put it in DFU mode (Device Firmware Update mode). This will help you restore your iPhone without loading the OS first.

Putting you iPhone into DFU mode should be used as a last resort if your iPhone is either stuck on the Apple logo or keeps rebooting.

    1. Connect your iPhone to iTunes.

    2. Hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time for 10 seconds.

    3. After exactly 10 seconds, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for 10 seconds or until iTunes pops up a message saying that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. At this point, click OK, then click “Restore” in iTunes.

I think this is better then the one i made

I too agree with the bad battery issue after the jailbreak, but not with the instability part.I too was having major issues with the instability, but after a lot of R&D found out it was arising out of installation of unsupported/incompatible applications. After removing them the issue got sorted. If anyone have installed mcleaner kindly remove it and check if the issue of instability is addressed.

Go to website https://greenpois0n.com/ , read How To Use Absinthe 2.0 (if you’re unjailbroken).

    Download:
    https://sites.google.com/site/greenpois0nabsinthe/absinthe-win-2.0.4.zip?attredirects=0&d=1

I jailbroke my iPhone4 Sunday, no issues with battery so far. Installed Installous. Can intall apps via Installous, also via repos such as BigBoss, HackYouriPhone, etc. If you update iPhone to iOS 5.1.1 and use Absinthe 2.0.4, you should have no issues.
